Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsWow! Sandra Bullock and George Clooney in GRAVITY.
Run, don't walk, to see this outstanding movie.
It's just about 92 minutes and now I know why it wasn't longer........we wouldn't have been able to take any more excitement or stress!
Well done, though my physicist husband says they got the physics wrong...oh well, it's still exciting.
I'll be decompressing for a while yet...
*whew*

(17,671 posts)I don't worry too much about being able to see the zipper on the monster costume if it's a good story.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,830 posts)Actually, when you look at the bare bones of the story, it was simple...
And effective.
The special effects just blew me away.

Thanks for pointing out my error.
Sandra Bowen was our local representative (I think) to the California Assembly. But don't quote me!

(153,310 posts)I liked the movie although when I saw it on the bigscreen it made me a little queasy

(149,830 posts)We have a 60" flat screen TV, and it is perfect for this sort of thing.
There were a couple of scenes that made me a bit queasy too........and our screen is nothing like as big as a theater screen!

(50,020 posts)Well, that and it was a lot cheaper to check it out from the library than go to the theater.

Apparently, those reviewers saw a different film...
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,830 posts)I didn't think there was anything typical about it.
Of course there are always plot points that you might recognize. After all, there is nothing new under the sun.
But the way the story progressed made it anything but typical in my eyes.

(2,190 posts)Poor woman had to have a man save her. I didn't enjoy it at all, and I am not a gung ho feminist.
Orrex
(63,291 posts)With a few minor dialogue changes, her character could just as readily have been played by a male, but then the primary criticism would be "why couldn't they have cast a woman in that role?"
I also don't see the hallucination as problematic, because it's not as though ol' George actually reappeared to advise her; the solution came from inside her own brain. It was a dramatic choice, understandable given the structure of the two-character narrative.
Having made the decision to use the device of a hallucination, who else might have appeared to her? One of the other dead astronauts? Ed Harris? Her dead child? George was the most sensible option within the context of the story.
It might have been interesting to see Clooney's role also played by a woman, but I thought that he gave an entertaining performance.

(26,582 posts)I thought it was okay, but I wouldn't watch it again. I didn't get the hype. Effects were great, but the story was ehh.

(27,677 posts)in 3D even. Fantastic effects.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,830 posts)It was SO intense in ordinary 2D that I don't think I could have handled it in 3D!
Really enjoyed it.

(27,677 posts)It was pretty immersive, which is what we were looking for.
