I for one cannot stand peeps but there are those that think Peeps are amazing.
So I'm putting forth this Easter Survey to get the general feeling of how people think about Peeps.

(12,676 posts)The taste is not much different from Peeps that are slightly stale.
(Husband is diabetic, he's allowed one a day)
And yes, it can be done - just like sugar free meringues. I've made meringues with Splenda that turned out almost as good as ones made with powdered sugar. They have just a touch of an alcohol off taste that can be mitigated some with adding flavor with a teaspoon of sugar-free syrup or flavored balsamic vinegar (a farmer's market vendor has both peach and blackberry infused balsamic vinegar) added in while you're whipping the egg-white. (You need to add a bit of vinegar anyway when you make meringues for candy or fruit shells, helps it "bake" with more crisp.)
I'd like to have done it with Monks-fruit sweetener, which has a fruity "off taste" rather than that slightly metallic or alcohol "off taste" one gets from other zero calorie sweeteners, but Splenda is the only one with the right consistency to make them; all the others tend to be too grainy.

(21,925 posts)What are peeps?
Rhiannon12866
(206,016 posts)That show up in the stores before Easter every year. They're usually in the shapes of chicks or bunnies and there are more colors than there used to be.

(21,925 posts)Believe it or not, I've never noticed them. How could I have grown up and reached the age of 64 without hearing about them? I do hate marshmallows though and probably wouldn't have tried them in the 50s and 60s as a kid if I'd been introduced to them.

(206,016 posts)But they've become a cultural phenomenon in recent years. Not only are there lots more colors and shapes, but they're used in dioramas...

(11,364 posts)They're ok, but not great. If you can find those Passover toasted coconut covered marshmallows, you won't bother with the peeps.

(1,363 posts)Love sugar free Peeps, but they are nowhere around this Easter. I found 2 stinkin' packs at CVS, none elsewhere. Not even Walgreen Drug. This ain't right.

(19,926 posts)Nasty chemicals. Yuck. Refined sugar is not as bad for you as that.

(17,621 posts)Isn't that kind of missing the point -- like fried vegetables?

(15,774 posts)Peeps are best if age. Drying them out a bit gives a better texture.

(2,289 posts)I say they are made by the Easter Bunny force feeding cotton candy to Unicorns and then collecting what comes out the other end.

There isn't enough Ketchup or Maple Syrup to erase that memory from existence

(41,861 posts)TO me, that little dish they have in the Philippines is probably worse. You know, the real bird embryo in a egg. I don't celebrate Easter nor do I eat marshmallow treats all that much if all.

(15,696 posts)I hate to eat them, but I love to buy them for everyone. Plus, I love watching idiots try to explain what chicks, eggs and rabbits have to do with Jesus.

(6,996 posts)Peeps, when allowed to age, become a crunchy treat. The fresh soft Peep is popped in the mouth and only lasts a few moments. When they get a bit stale and hard they can be nibbled on, bit by bit. Yummm.
