On my campy wish list is a fish shaped garden planter. I like the simple looking ones with the hole in the back of the fish for the plants, but I want it glazed red and very campy. At least 20 inches long. I thought I found one at Lowe's but the hole was too small for my cacti.
What's on your campy list?

(21,024 posts)that that's what I want for my birthday. The perfect gift for the man who has everything. Actually, 2 of everything. Except an anvil.

(34,136 posts)My dad had picked it up at a yard sale years and years ago. A young man of my acquaintance was graduating from farrier's school and needed an anvil to do horseshoeing.
The day I took it to the barn another farrier I've known for decades was there and he looked the anvil over. His opinion was it was not a farrier's anvil but a blacksmith's anvil. The good news was, he knew a doctor who had just retired and who was taking up blacksmithing as a hobby and who needed an anvil. He called the doctor up, the man drove out and bought the anvil.
Farrier's anvils are balanced differently than blacksmithing anvils and the horn will be a different shape. Plus farrier's anvils have places to hook shoes into to bend and shape them correctly for the horses' feet. The older farrier collects anvils and knows a lot about the history and science of how they are made. From just looking at the anvil I had, he could make a guess at the manufacturer, even though there was not mark to indicate who that was.
My farrier friend and I had discussed pricing - average used anvils sell for roughly $2 a pound and this one weighed maybe 75 pounds. When the doctor heard that the entire price of the anvil was to go to the young man, he paid me $250! Not only did the young man get a new anvil designed for horseshoeing, he also got a stand and other needed equipment to get started on his new career.
The young man works out of my farm and is now the farrier for my horses, so it all works great for me, too.
Depending on what kind of anvil you need, you might ask around in the farrier community in your area. Even if you want a blacksmithing anvil, they might know where you can find one. Some of the farrier supply stores that sell anvils and tools take any kind of anvil as trade ins. If they can't sell them, the send them to be melted down

(46,720 posts)Suddenly I saw the silhouette of a flamingo. It rose up from the backseat, hesitated, and then started pecking madly in the air. A second flamingo stood up and started pecking back.
I started laughing. Obviously two kids in the backseat playing with freshly purchased garden toys.

(34,136 posts)Dad bought the used windows when the school board upgraded the windows in one of the schools and designed the greenhouse around them. It's about 12 foot diameter, twelve sided, 15 feet tall in the middle. Works great for Mom's orchids!
