Bideford Black

In Bideford, UK, a unique pigment called Bideford Black was mined for over 200 years, until 1969. The deposits were formed 350 million years ago in the Carboniferous Period. It contains carbon, silica, and aluminum. It was used in paint and mascara and was called "The Mother of Coal".
