Did anyone see the movie The Book Thief? It's coming on HBO in a few

minutes and I'm wondering if I should give it a look. Any feedback is appreciated!

1. The book was so remarkable (we listened to it on Audible) that the movie

was a disappointment to us. Great books nearly always make disappointing movies because they paint such a unique picture in the mind of each reader - it is impossible to translate that which we paint to one common version.

Those who haven't read the book will probably be more impressed.

2. Thank you! I totally agree about books being better than the movies 99.99% of

the time. I think the only exception may be "To Kill A Mockingbird". I haven't read this particular book so I'll give the movie a chance and see if it draws me in. Well, at least now I'm motivated to read the book which I've been wanting to do anyway. Thanks for your input!

3. my pleasure! A few movies that actually worked great alongside equally great books

were Remains of the Day, Howard's End, The Hours, Mrs. Dalloway - it isn't impossible, just unlikely!

4. I was disappointed but, my 14 y/o nephew loved it. It is worth watching but, fell just short

for some reason. I don't know why exactly. I did not read the book so, that comparison is lost on me.

5. I think I'll still watch it. The book was such a treasure and though it would

most likely be hard to replicate I'm curious to see it.
