(430 posts)This is a surface area question, not volume; and further, a solid has much more mass than volume as compared to gas (in these two cases--noxious gases of volatile brimstone compounds); also when the wind comes, the malodorous intestinal gases fly away and dissipate into nothingness.

I always heard California is the same size as Japan. Japan is slightly larger.

(10,303 posts)The site didn't have that option, so a quick look on Wikipedia was required. Turns out you can fit Jersey into New Jersey 191.45 times.
However the island is more densely populated than NJ.
