"Complaining" about "cold" temperatures in the 50s and 60s and having to wear jackets and long pants and the such.
I don't know what brings out this smug dickishness for me. I think it's having to wear jackets and long pants.

(43,182 posts)Of course, many Floridians get a perverse thrill out of a good hurricane, so....
What can you say....we're crazy and we know it.

(3,065 posts)I had to work outside today and wore a sweatshirt until about 10:00. Cold wind and very damp today. Started to rain just as I was leaving work.

(30,947 posts)rather than the extreme heat and humidity in South Florida. I lived in Florida most of my life until I moved here to the Atlanta area, and I am happy I did. Winters can be brutal, but not as brutal as the heat in South Florida which lasts year 'round.

(30,947 posts)as I spent some time in Scotland where the temperature in the winter was 9 degrees below zero. Yes, that was cold.

(9,214 posts)I have seen 42 below F. but not recently, 20 to 30 below is about the limit the last few years.
As for snow we are at the far end of the lake effect off of Lake Ontario and didn't get what Buffalo or Tug Hill got but we did get about 18 inches where I live. You don't get much snow do you?
You have gotten some bad ice storms though haven't you? I know just how devastating they can be, we had a bad one last year but luckily we only lost power for a few hours. Had a terrible one in '98. Ice storms are usually worse than snow storms and have longer lasting and more devastating damage. They can cause the "wow" factor when you open a window and listen to the trees cracking and falling.

(6,336 posts)I for one don't mind the cold weather. To quote Frozen, the cold doesn't bother me anyways.
RebelOne
(30,947 posts)but I do complain when temperatures hit the 90s in the summer. I hate summer anyway. In the winter you can always bundle up in layers, but in summer to stay cool, you have to stay in air-conditioning or just don't go outside.

(32,086 posts)I have lived through as many Southern summers as I have Chicago winters. Six of one, half a dozen of the other. At least in winter, if you put on enough layers, you can get warm. Stripping down only goes so far when its upper 90s with matching humidity. Then there's the mosquitoes, no-see-ums, mold, mildew...
