dope must be better than it used to be. i remember (back in the olden days) you had to smoke several times before you'd get stoned.

at least some people had to.

with my rock band when we were on the road playing in cheap clubs and there was little else to do all day. Generally, the weed wasn't very potent and it would take a whole joint to get a nice buzz, unless it was a Thai stick. Marijuana from Thailand was several times more potent. We also soaked rolling papers in hash oil which helped. I haven't really smoked bud since my 20s in the 1970s so I can't really compare it to what's available today.

Except for my recent mistake of eating a whole medical lollipop a friend brought me from Colorado.

Note to self: next time split it 8 ways and have a good time. Don't ruin an afternoon thinking you are going to die.

They weren't playing when they made those pops. I've never been so high (marijuana)in my life.

If it wasn't for my extensive training of 60 plus Grateful Dead shows (and all the accoutrements) I would have run screaming or maybe ended up on Wacky 911 calls.com.

...is "400 times stronger" according to our governments latest propaganda campaign. But you bring up an important point: "...it would take a whole joint to get a nice buzz..." which of course implies that at 400 times stronger, a whole joint would be out of the question.

I started using a pipe when the good pot hit the market. We all became more efficient; the growers, the dealers and the users all had one vision that was a first for American Enterprise-QUALITY.

Doesn't it just mean you don't have to smoke as much to get the same high? With pot, its difficult to over do it. At least for me. Once you attain a certain high, you just want to chill, listen to music or whatever. I try an use a vaporizer now, but if you smoke, wouldn't it be actually beneficial to not to have to inhale as much smoke to get the same high? I never hear this argument but I wish someone would answer back to some of these reactionaries with this.

..."being stronger" is a GOOD thing.

The anti-pot propagandists just think they have an argument AGAINST legalization. It's not only "stronger", it is cheaper, more efficient and healthier in that you do not task your lungs with adulterated crap the likes of 'ditchweed'.

Their line of attack shows that they really have no idea what cannabis is about.

More f'ed up than what the seemingly innocuous stuff they tried themselves in the 70's ... did.

While the concentration of THC has undoubtedly gone up dramatically, all this REALLY means is that you don't need to smoke nearly as much to get the same buzz. So, people now take 2 or 3 hits off the bong or atomizer, and they're good instead of needing to blow an entire J to their head like in the 'old days'.

Plus MJ has a distinct ceiling effect where smoking more doesn't really get you any 'more high' anyway, which is why one cannot 'OD' on it. You might get 'higher than the level of highness you enjoy', but its not going to actually put your life in jeopardy no matter much you smoke.

Which means that the higher thc concentration of today's MJ ... is not especially 'relevant'. It's a 'fear tactic'. People who don't know much about the stuff but DO know about alcohol are going to assume that what they know about booze is also applicable to weed. But what's happened with the thc concentration is NOT the same thing as if you replaced everyone's beer ... with Wild Turkey, and everyone still drank a six-pack's worth of liquid. If you know what I'm saying.

I, too am about the same age as these grandmothers. I have 11 grandchildren. I have been smoking for forty five years.....since 1968. And yes the weed is stronger. Here in Kentucky we grow some of the best. It then gets packed up and sold in Cincinnati, Detroit, St. Louis leaving very little FRESH weed for us natives.

How I envy these ladies for smoking Cannabis right in the open without fear of reprisal from the law!

Why is that?

It's because the Cannabis Prohibition is well and alive in Canada: The "Government Red-Tapes" will kill me long before I can get any relief for my physical ailments.

But that's no reason to keep up the fight!

Thanks for posting!

Unless it gets corporatized and markets start an advertising campaign and raking in big bucks. Then, these stodgy tough-on-crime states might suddenly decide that selling people pot is more profitable than putting them in private prisons. But, for now, they're raking in too much money in the prison industrial complex.

I once read that the dirt-grown rag week from Mexico, which was all there was back in the late 60's, at least around here, ran from .5% THC up to 1.5%

The highest potency stated in an authenticated report was 27%, grown indoors in Surrey, BC.

The highest I've heard of was a strain from Holland, I believe, called Tutankhamun, which has been touted as having a THC content of 33%.

I wonder what the maximum possible might be. Obviously, anything approaching 100% is impossible, so where does the boundary lie? On a personal note, I had to quit smoking dope years ago, because I completely lost the enjoyment factor. It had become so strong that I found I was always wondering "When is this going to be over?", and a few times, felt like I was having a stroke or something. Someone I know actually called 911 twice.

An EMT actually said to him: "It's OK, Al. You're just really high."

they're either younger than I or they grew up on an island protected by the rest of the world.

I'm a grandmother.

Pot was ubiquitous when I was growing up. I didn't know anyone who didn't have some. My mom thought she was really cool when she offered me my first joint at about the age of 14. She was oblivious, never having noticed that I'd already been raiding her stash for years.

It DID bring back memories, lol. It may have been several decades, but I haven't forgotten. I don't think it's "just like being drunk," though. Drunks get stupid and sloppy, and sometimes violent. Pot? Mellow, silly, and hungry.

I don't smoke very often anymore, my lungs can't take it, but give me a fresh green bud, and I'll eat it like salad.
My grandmother used to smoke, for pain relief, when she was alive. She had problems with pain medications, so her doctor told my uncle, an old hippy, to get her high.

Moe Bandy
Daddy's honky tonk

Mama is a God fearin' woman
She never done a bad deed in her life
A kind and carin' mother to us children
And to Daddy a trustin' lovin' wife

But she gave into temptation
And to Daddy's aggravation
She smoked her first joint and did it right
Mama burn down Daddy’s honky tonk last night

Mama cried hallelujah you had it comin' to ya
You could see the flames from miles and miles around
Well accordin' to the Parson
It was not a case of arson
When she smoked her first joint it burned so bright
Mama burned down Daddy's honky tonk last night

Some folks will talk for days of why it happened
And the papers will make her front page news
To the local ladies she is still a hero

To the men folk she's the witch who lit the fuse

Well Mama said that she had had it
She was tired of Daddy's habits
She smoked her first joint and did it right
Mama burned down Daddy's honky tonk last night

Mama cried hallelujah you had it comin' to ya...

Never saw my Daddy cry or Mama quite so high
When she smoked her first joint and did it right
Mama burned down Daddy's honky tonk last night.
