Happy, Happy Thanksgiving! I just got a great thanksgiving gift!!!!

I posted in ITW's snow shoveling thread that I am scheduled to work in one lab until 8pm tonight and the other lab at 7am tomorrow. With a heavy snow storm (now here) that meant I wouldn't get home until 10pm, possibly later. Have to deal with getting my car of the road in a way that would enable me to get it back on the road in the wee hours. Take care of the animals. Not get to bed until 11pm, possibly later if we lost power. Get up 5am latest, possibly earlier depending on the car situation.

On my way down to the lab today, I found myself fantasizing that the morning lab tech offered to stay the full 12-hour shift. Like that was going to happen the night before thanksgiving

Que up the Twilight Zone music!

I walked into the lab and said "Hi." The lab tech looked up from the computer with puzzled face. "Why are you here? I thought I was scheduled all day!" "No, I'm scheduled to be here." "I could have sworn *I* was scheduled to be here! I was expecting it."

We checked the schedule -- I was right; he was wrong. But he looked a little disappointed. I told him I'd be so grateful if he would stay. He said he had to make sure it was ok (they don't want to pay any overtime. It brought him up to 36 hours for the week -- his *normal* amount! Somehow he'd been scheduled for only 28 hours this week, and I was scheduled for 24 instead of my usual 16, wrecking his budget and putting my life at risk!

Then he asked if I could drop off some blood at the hospital -- he'd been worried all day about the courier having to come down there at the height of the storm to pick it up. Absolutely

So I drove around for 2 hours, but I'm home for the evening and night!!!! WHOO-FREAKIN'-HOO!!!!!

I'm so glad I could save the courier the drive, too. The lab used to have their own courier, but he was killed in a storm just a couple years ago rushing stats from that lab because they are such assholes about timing.

That's just wonderful.

He gets to work to get his hours, and you get to stay home after doing a delivery. Win-Win!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

Yesterday, somebody posted some old concert ticket stubs in a Facebook music group. It inspired me to poke around to see if I could find any, which I did -- along with a forgotten debit card with twenty dollars on it! That means wine instead of beer with my turkey tomorrow!

Actually, more than just sometimes, if you work it right.
Happy Holiday!
