WHY?WHY??!!!??
If it were just slowing down my trip, to make your trip faster, I'd actually understand that better. But that's not how it works. If I'm on 1, going to 14, and you're at 6, going to 1, and you press both "up" and "down", you're making it take more time for both of us. I'd actually prefer it if you were getting some advantage out of my inconvenience, because that would at least be rational.

(16,334 posts)How many blind people are getting in and out of that hotel elevator that the ding has to be loud enough to wake the dead? Most people are already standing there waiting for the elevator and can see the light go off when it arrives. And I would think a blind person's sense of hearing would be sharp enough to hear a ding at a regular decibel.
because people are, indeed, stupid.

(10,624 posts)If I can get on the elevator while it is going down .... well, I'm still on it, aren't I?
If I just wait for the elevator to come back up to me, it may very well be too full from having stopped at the lobby.

(34,137 posts)In the mornings every "down" car was full of women and their needlework supplies, same for "up cars" in the afternoon. The only way to have the elevator stop with room to get on was to push both buttons and take the first car with space even if it was going the wrong way.
What they needed were teleporters!

(33,688 posts)an elevator full of people as soon as the door opens or have obnoxiously loud discussions about their relationships in the quiet section of the library or STOP at the top or bottom of an ESCALATOR - they are brain-dead assholes with no manners or common sense who can barely use toilet paper that has no instructions printed on it.
