I arrived to work this morning at 4:30 a.m., to put the final touches on a presentation that I was to deliver to upper, upper management players, scheduled for 9:00 a.m.
I fired up my coffee maker and dove into the project.
At 8:45 a.m., I received a pigeon (IM) that the meeting is being re-scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

No ... I'll bump up this afternoon's appointments, that I will have to re-schedule, into earlier slots ... I don't do well when I have too much time thinking about up coming events; negative thoughts creep in.

(31,849 posts)The bigwigs want to make a change in operations that constitutes a huge cultural shift ... that's fine; but, their approach "Do it because I said so" is doomed for failure, as they have zero buy-in from key internal and external stakeholders ... in fact, they haven't even discussed the change with the stakeholders.
My presentation will be a brief Leadership 101: Managing Organizational Change While Being The New Kid On The Block seminar, sub-title: Whoa, Nelly! You What To Do It When? ... and they are not going to take it well.

Did I mention young and pretty?
I predict a major project, soon to come ... will be consulting on handling the major sexual harassment and/or sex/age discrimination complaint, I suspect will be filed, any day now.

(20,277 posts)That's serious. I've had some experience with the young and pretty getting moved up before me. Then young and pretty proved to be pretty incompetent (which we all knew). I am a bit ashamed to say that didn't break my heart. Eventually she got moved to a different position in another department. I don't miss office land at all.

(31,849 posts)One of the "Young n Prettys" was hired at the Associate VP level ... she has less than 1 year supervising (not directing or managing, supervising) a staff of 5 clerical supporters. She is tasked with instituting the change and doesn't have a clue why just change the Org-Chart won't affect the change.

(6,279 posts)I was teaching a class on energy and at the beginning asked college students to imagine they lived in an age without our technology but were fabulously rich and could afford to pay as many people as they liked to maintain something close to their current lifestyle. Of the four groups, in addition to listing people to do every kind of essential and entertainment task I could imagine, two groups independently realized a burning need for a pigeon trainer...
