I spent years working as a reporter in the Jefferson County Courthouse. They were happier times, when Larry Langford still ruled as commission president, before the bankruptcies and court-ordered receiverships.
And before same-sex marriage.
On Monday, I stood in the park to witness one same-sex couple after another stepping from its brass doors. Righteous street preachers predicted calamity and collapse, a modern Sodom and Gomorrah, the Fall of Man.
On Wednesday, I returned to that place to tour the ruins - to see what remained of the Jefferson County Courthouse in the aftermath of gay marriage.
In the trees, wild animals to prey upon the weak.
