Oh lord....I'm in plumbing hell.

My tub has been backing up and my toilet bubbles and won't flush when the tub backs up. We rented a power snake, removed the toilet, and the cable kept feeding through the roof vent. We finally gave up and called a plumber.

After much digging around in the yard we found the clean outs to the sewer line. They were clear and still no fix.

Problem exist between the cast iron stack and clean out and the stack doesn't have a clean out.

So we pulled the toilet again with the plumber and he couldn't get the snake to go down the stack instead of up.

Then the snake bored through the cast iron drain stack.

The Gods of Municipal Sanitation and Plumbing have definitely been offended. (What kind of small mammal would appease them for a sacrifice so they will stop shitting on me?)

On the plus side, my main sewer line is good and the plumbers are cutting a in new fitting with a inside clean out without charging me more.

There is a toilet sitting in middle of my bedroom right now.

I grew up in a house with an outhouse and chamber pot. I am definitely feeling a bit nostalgic.

If anyone can put in a good word with the plumbing gods and/or goddesses, go for it.

I'm not even sure we have a problem. One toilet seems to have a problem doing a complete flush. We're treating it with lyme away. That seems to solve the problem. The other toilet only does a partial flush at certain times of the day/night. I think too many old folks in this community are flushing at the same time.

Three days of work and I have nothing but good things to say about the company I called. They could have easily charged double or more for the work they put in.

I will still use the wipes, but they aren't going into my drainage system.

I wonder if I can sue Cottonelle for the plumbing costs?

so when they tore it out it wasn't so much human feces as rotten veggies all over the basement.

We had suffered repeated clogs...turns out a lot of it was good old Milwaukee mud...and finally called a different plumber.

So the worst was found, and the the basic fix is probably the same as yours ...tear up basement floor, remove rotted cast iron, replace with PVC.

It was over $1500 and I did all the replacement of the concrete and tile flooring in the basement.

Life isn't good when you have one of these problems.

Fortunately the outside is all PVC, but older houses are the worst. About the only thing missing is lead or asbestos coated pipes.

There is no appeasing the plumbing gods. They are vicious and relentless.

Just be glad you don't have a plumber who passes off a leaking toilet (puddle under the toilet) for condensation.

afford it. Here's a cute little house for sale in my town. I'm in South Pasadena which is a separate city from Pasadena. Prices are insane because of the great school district, but still! All I can do is laugh!

Using and CONTINUING the first year home-buyer's warranty & insurance that comes with your home purchase, paid for by the seller, the first year! Most agents forget to tell you about it, and rarely tell you how easy it is to use it! I renewed it annually and made sure I really used it. It only cost a couple hundred a year and I used it for everything from minor electric problems, the water heater, hvac, roof issues, minor and major plumbing issues etc. the co-pay was 30 bucks, saving me many thousands of bucks. It's one if those things no one knows about, but it's a gold mine!

We have city sewage system and it's pretty good. We pay taxes to keep our city operating efficiently in all areas. Plus we have city gas so I can enjoy a gas stove and have a hot water heater run on gas.
