This is amazing. This kitty must have used up at least three or four of its nine lives.

For 64 days, 2-year-old Moosie traveled by truck, boat and train from El Paso, Texas to Fairbanks, Alaska trapped inside of a futon mattress that was placed in a moving box.
Kymberly Chelf and her husband, Jesse, had packed up their belongings and were moving from Fort Briggs to Fort Wainwright. One of the last things the movers packed was the futon. When the Chelfs realized Moosie was missing, they thought their family pet had run away, possibly escaping through a door left open during the move.
It was very heartbreaking thinking that we had lost him, said Kymberly. We tried everything to find him.
Moosie survived more than two months without food or water, trapped in total darkness. The Chelfs belongings arrived at their new Alaska home last Thursday. A couple of hours later, Kymberly heard her pet cats cry.
As soon as I heard him meowing, it just sounded like he was giving it everything he had just to let us know he was there, she said.

(51,122 posts)We unpacked almost everything and looked in every nook and cranny. Cats usually won't 'leave' the premises. They will go deep within something in the premises.
He ended up being inside a box of clothes. The furniture is the first thing we checked, then we moved onto boxes.

(31,401 posts)People with kitties who are moving need to isolate the cat when packing. And also
isolate the cat when moving trucks are being loaded. Use the kitty carrier!

(5,810 posts)Our cat, Sushi, ALWAYS knew when we were going on trips. If he saw the suitcases come out, he would hide. See the Pet Taxi? More hiding. Get him INTO the Pet Taxi? Only after sneaking up on him and not letting him see the Pet Taxi. He KNEW that it meant a trip to the vet or to be boarded while we were gone.
I have heard of cats that peed in suitcases to express their opinion on what was about to happen. LOL. Guess they got the last laugh.
I suspect the kitty in this story just hid out when all the moving activity was happening and then got put in the moving van. Poor baby...I can imagine the pitiful kitteh crying to be let out. 😿

(1,858 posts)The cat getting trapped in a box while moving is very believable. The length of time
, not so much.

(46,436 posts)for these containers shipped from the Lower 48 to get up here. If people are moving not a lot of stuff, the movers hold whatever truckloads from different states that are coming up here in Seattle until the shipping container is full. If there aren't many people moving, you can wait a while for it. When my husband moved up here from East Texas, it took several weeks for his belongings to arrive.
