with a snake in his mouth alighted on a cactus. They took that as an omen, and built their city there.

The Mexican coat of arms owes its origins to an Aztec legend. According to the legend, the leader of a nomadic tribe was visited by a god named Huitzilopochtli in a dream. The leader was told by the god that the tribe would come across an eagle, perched on a cactus, devouring a snake. They were ordered to settle wherever they found this eagle. The tribe did so in 1325, despite the swampy conditions of the area. This land would become Tenochtitlan, which is now called Mexico City and is one of the largest cities in the world.

Very frightened and he has puncture wounds on his head, but he is fine.

I'm afraid I had to kill the snake.

He likes to be held and cuddled. He's a big lap goose. The others keep their distance, but are very sweet if you pick them up.

I saw a copperhead--well camouflaged against mulch--under a bush by our driveway as I was taking
Snowy out for our walk this morning. Decided to leave it be...and it was gone when we returned.
Did not make me happy, because I know it's somewhere in the yard...and I had to water this a.m.
and probably will again in two days because it's so damn hot and no rain in sight.

I HATE snakes.

We have big black rat snakes around here. They move FAST!

snake could have swallowed him.

Very large snake though.

If it makes you feel any better - copperheads are shy and rarely bite. I almost stepped on one once. It just looked at me.

I've heard that copperheads will move away if you leave them alone. I did kill one once
that was right next to the house and headed under the front steps. I didn't want him
taking up residence there with our two outdoor/indoor kitties around, or our last dog
which was bitten by a (probably) copperhead one time. The dog had been out--heard her
yelp--came in and later that afternoon she wouldn't get up. She was old enough I thought
she'd had a stroke. Of course the weekend, so we had to go to emergency vet. They saw
her swollen hind leg, shaved it, found the fang marks. Damn snakes! Dog was ok.

I just truly hate killing anything. It really upsets me.

I've had to do it more than once out here on the farm. Always in defense of my critters.

And I also had a Quaker parrot in a cage. One morning I woke up to see one of the snakes wrapped around the cage. The squawking of the parrot woke me. Try unwrapping a 7-foot boa constrictor.

I'd read that they are contrictors, but dayum.

The duck just fell out as we unwrapped the poor snake...jumped up and waddled off.

I needed a fainting couch.

I remember and ex telling me about his sister screaming because she found a snake wrapped around her duck, with its mouth on the duck's bill.....he said there is no way in hell it could have eaten the duck and he wished he could have watched it more but his sister kept screaming

Anyway, the snake was very serious about killing the duck. I was so horrified when I came upon the scene.

I still can't understand why the duck did not skedaddle away....

Just sad I had to kill the snake. He/she was a beautiful long snake.

Just to let you know...my 80+ neighbor had a black snake run in her front door last week. She called 911!!! The Clearwater police came and got the snake out from under her couch. The snake and neighbor are fine!

There was no gunplay or tasers involved.

Hopefully, your cops and EMS were just as helpful!

I killed the snake with an ax after getting it off the poor duck.

I hated to do so, but this is the second duck he went after.
