Just checked to see the status.
It says "a decision has been made on your claim" and I'll be notified of the decision by mail. FFS, would it have been so difficult to say "claim accepted, your benefit will be xxx beginning on xxx?" Really?!?!
I'm assuming it's accepted because 1. there is no reason I'm aware of not to accept it and 2. nobody has called me to verify anything.
But really, what's the point of having an online status check if it tells you nothing?!?!

I'm guessing what they really mean is somebody has actually got my application and is working on it. It's not real clear...
wait, I just re-looked at my OP. That's right... it said, specifically and verbatim, "a decision has been made on your claim."
This is for retirement.

(14,881 posts)if you have to apply 3 months in advance, I wouldn't expect it to be finished in 5 days.
Nice that they verified my location. Otherwise, I might not be sure where I am...

(31,402 posts)I applied (on-line) on Dec. 19, 2012. My approval letter--with amount and all kinds of other info--was dated
one week later, Dec. 26, 2012. I remember being quite surprised at how fast the notification letter arrived,
but I didn't save a dated envelope.
You shouldn't have to wait long, I hope!

(14,881 posts)'specially since you have to apply so early. But I guess they just need a headcount to budget for it.

(115,836 posts)and even so, it was processed very, very quickly. I even got a telephone call from someone at SS who wanted to give me some information about my application. I thanked him for working during the shutdown. Everything relating to SS/Medicare that I've had to deal with has been handled quickly and simply.
