National Taco Day It is not known exactly when taco day originated, but tacos themselves have been around for a long time. They were first referenced by that name at the end of the 19th century, but the conquistador Cortez mentioned a meal prepared with tortillas as far back as 1520! Those would have been the soft wheat or corn tortillas. Hard taco shells are a much more recent innovation. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/taco-day/National Ship in A Bottle Day If you have ever admired the craftsmanship and beauty of a traditional ship in a bottle, you will be pleased to hear that this clever piece of art has its own annual day. Ship in a Bottle Day celebrates the centuries-old skill of creating a miniature, fully-rigged ship that sits magically inside a glass bottle. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/ship-in-a-bottle-day/
Vodka Day Vodka Day is a great time to raise your glasses to one of the worlds favourite alcoholic drinks. While vodka is often associated with Russia, and some of the finest and most expensive vodkas in the world come from there, it is a drink that is produced in many countries and enjoyed all over the world. Vodka is the Slavic word for little water and is traditionally made by mixing water with distilled grains or potatoes, although today many popular brands add flavourings such as fruits and sugars. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/vodka-day/
World Animal Day Started in 1931 in Italy, this annual celebration of all things furry is now a popular day in which we remember the important role that animals have to play in our world, as well as the people who devote their lives working to protect and care for them. https://www.daysoftheyear.com/days/world-animal-day/

(10,418 posts)I turned 43 today.
I've never really sweated getting older, but this year I've had a little pang of anxiety over it. I'm feeling good, especially since I started eating right and losing weight, but when I look in the mirror it definitely says, "Middle aged guy," now days.

(112,252 posts)Turning 43 wasn't so bad (since I still looked like I was 35 at the time). However, turning 50 this year was a bummer. I still have a few younger friends and being old enough to be their father isn't something I'm not used to since I never had kids.

(112,252 posts)I already started celebrating Vodka Day before you made this post! Tonight's potent potable menu includes Skyy vodka (a premium vodka that undergoes quadruple fractional distillation) and Welch's Passion Fruit Cherry cocktail blend. Pour it over the rocks in a shot glass in a half-and-half mixture and take a shot every time that I win a video game. I also have the headphones on listening to 60s psychedelic music so it works out pretty well.
I'lll celebrate Animal Day tomorrow with my cat, but she already snoozed in my lap tonight so I'm letting her do her thing.
