The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsFriday thread the second: Songs you can listen to over and over
Once is not enough for some songs. They're over too soon, they have such a catchy tune or lyric, as it's ending, you instinctively hit the "repeat" button.
"Amie" by Pure Prairie League. The peppy intro and bridge interspersed with the percussionistic guitar, and those instruments swap the spotlight with the tight harmonies of a bunch of guys clearly enjoying the song make you want to start it again as soon as its over.
Cante e dance by Pink Martini. This is a song that should play on a movie soundtrack over a montage of the young couple sightseeing in some European capital, falling in love, and having more affectionate fun than two people ever should. You dont have to speak Italian to get the gist of the lyric and enjoy a romantic piece of music scored for two voices that sing and dance so well together.
What do you have to listen to again right away?

(8,580 posts)Angry Eyes by Loggins & Messina, another song in that same style. I have those both on one of my ipod playlists side by side. A few other songs on that playlist that I feel that way about: Carry On and Cathedral by CSN/Y; Questions and Uno Mundo by Buffalo Springfield. Supertramp, Even in the Quietest Moments; a song that literally takes my breath sometimes.

(7,495 posts)"Both Sides Now" by Joni Mitchell. Her sweet voice and the seemingly sunny imagery of the lyrics hide the pain bubbling underneath.
"Wasn't Born To Follow", The Byrds. Used all over the film Easy Rider. The sound was weaved through production techniques to sound like the bluegrass of Scruggs and Monroe playing in outer space.
"Dear Prudence", The Beatles. Not so well known or played as most of their stuff, it's my favorite cut on the White Album. It really seems like a group effort, the vocal mix is superb. Trippy but simple, lofty but honest, it just soars.

(1,893 posts)A friend of mine decided it was my song and posted it on my Facebook page, and sure enough, I freakin' love it and have listened to it hundreds of times at this point (I think my S.O. pretty much wants to kill me).

(10,418 posts)For concept albums, I think it ranks up there with the all-time best. I like every song on there and I really dig the message of the album.

(43,182 posts)Maybe because it's catchy and upbeat. Or maybe because I love the video of an adolescent version of Kim Jong Un freeing political prisoners and getting down with his staff:

(4,138 posts)Yeah, so it's the "Freebird" of modern rootsy music. Don't care - It's impossible not to sing along with.
Amie is pretty great too for all the reasons you said. Doesn't come around often enough on classic rock radio playlists.
