early reviews have been very positive. You can watch all 13 episodes, if you wanted. Most likely, I'll try to get through 2-3 over the weekend.

(8,352 posts)I hope it is as good as Daredevil was.

(56,828 posts)It's probably going to be a little darker than Daredevil just because of her backstory.

(8,352 posts)This could be quite interesting.
I am not particularly fond of the actress but I will give her a chance in this.
House of Cards and Daredevil were binge worthy.

(56,828 posts)The only place I remember Ritter from was Breaking Bad, and I thought she was pretty good there in her limited screen time.
(Though, with Jones' drinking problem and her drug problem in BB, I wonder if she's getting typecast?)
She wasn't stand out for me, but I admit to some biases.
I had a girlfriend in graduate school who was a recovery heroin addict who relapsed and almost died.
But you are right about the typecasting, and it will be interesting to see how she handles the role.

(22,340 posts)She's a solid actor. I had to get caught up on "Fargo" this weekend so will likely get to Jessica Jones soon.

Plans to watch at least 5.

(8,217 posts)Yes / No
Most likely yes...
I'll try to be a bit more loquacious than that however... Perhaps not to that extent, but I'll try.

(8,217 posts)I had a busy weekend but I am an insomniac.
I have a hard time watching anything that involves drug use, drinking and other things of that sort, be it comedy, drama or action. It is not something I can relate to easily.
Still, the production values are great, the acting done well, even if I am not a fan of Krystin Ritter, I have to admit she did a good job at this. I would probably have enjoyed someone else as lead actress but she definitely pulls it off.
Someone told me to pay attention to the Harley Davidson and how it does not seem to fit the character that uses it. I told her, it was more the helmet that got to me, since it just didn't work for my sensibilities. It almost looked like a watermelon with a helmet to me, as I just didn't think it fit the character.
I don't know when I will finish the series as I have a very busy week, but I will.
As you can see, I try not to write about anything too specific in the story as I avoid spoilers, however, I can say:
It is a well thought out drama.
The use of "Powers" is reserved and expands the story, rather than being about it... So, it becomes a crime/psychological drama that happens to have powers as an enhancement rather than being the primary focus, which I can appreciate.
There are scenes that are hard to watch, and the characters are complex.
I am liking the moves Netflix has done with their Marvel relationship.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)more reminded me of what soldiers in WW2 wore on the battlefield, rather than actual motorcycle helmets. I guess so we can more easily identify the handsome face of Mike Colter and the pretty face of Kristen Ritter?

(8,217 posts)I am not even complaining, it just looked weird to me, not that it takes away anything from the show.

(56,828 posts)excellent ending, excellent series overall. I hope we can get JJ 2 next year, though I hear that might be tough with Luke Cage and The Defenders on tap in the future, and JJ will likely be part of both.

(26,117 posts)My daughter liked Marvel's Agent Carter & I wondered if this might be a good show for us to watch together.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)graphic and intense violence, alcohol abuse and numerous sex scenes (though, not a lot of nudity). Not to mention the trauma of a woman dealing with the PTSD related to having been raped and mentally held hostage. If they're mature enough to handle that, it's a great story and it shows a woman overcoming her traumatic past.

(26,117 posts)Agent Carter was more whimsical, I think.
Appreciate the review!

(56,828 posts)Hopefully, she is smart enough not to go all Shannon Doherty on Marvel and the creative team on the show.
I usually have a hard time liking characters that have drug or alcohol problems, but she did a great job of getting me to sympathize with her.

(11,843 posts)A bit dark, but I'm like "graphic novels" as series and movies. Both Marvel and DC have had some good ones.
TM99
(8,352 posts)but I really found myself having to push through it to the end. With Daredevil, I just couldn't pull away and stayed up late watching way too many episodes.
It was dark but at times just too psychological. It felt like it was trying to make a point about abuse and addiction and PTSD without letting us get that point ourselves in the course of the story. In other words it felt like it was being pushed instead of organically pulling us in to the experiences.
We also both had a hard time getting into the characters. Now Luke was interesting and frankly so was Trish, but Jessica wasn't near deep enough for us. She was a snotty cynic with an alcohol problem before Kilgrave and she remained one afterwards. There was nothing I could see that really motivated her. Luke protected those he loved and had his own code of honor. Trish was trying to overcome issues from childhood and wanted to save people genuinely. Jessica just wanted to stop Kilgrave but she didn't care who she might hurt in the process.
Maybe things will evolve more in a 2nd season but sadly, it just didn't grab us like Daredevil did.
NewJeffCT
(56,828 posts)about the show not being subtle in its message about PTSD and addiction, but I think because it was such a huge part of her life, it played a huge part in the show.
I think we'll see more of her past in Season 2 and how she dealt with Trish and her mom when she was younger, and how that drove her to be the way she was. (Almost didn't recognize Rebecca DeMorney as Trish's mom on the show until I saw her name in the credits!)
I think I liked the minor characters on Daredevil better than in Jessica Jones - Claire seemed almost forced into the show on JJ, while her presence was more natural on DD. But, not just her, but Ben Urich, Wesley (Fisk's assistant/translator), and some others whom I'm forgetting right now. I thought some of Jessica's neighbors were just kind of annoying.
TM99
(8,352 posts)but I found myself seeing it as an excuse for all of JJ's bad behavior. She lied, used, and abused people as much as Kilgrave did in some ways but we, the audience, are asked to forgive her because of the 'trauma & abuse'.
In DD, we saw DD & Fisk(Kingpin) as opposite sides of a coin. They shared so much in common even down to the darkness within. Batman and Joker are another wonderful archetypal pairing of villain and hero. I guess I wanted, as a long time comic reader, to see that depth played out with JJ & Gilgrave. It just wasn't to my own personal satisfaction.
And yes, the minor character, especially the women, were not very good in JJ. Some were even very cliche, and not in a good way.
Sometimes a show needs a full season to truly hit its stride. Some, like DD, hit in the first season.
Oh, one other thing I just adored about DD was the cinematography. There were so many scenes that were like pages from a comic book. My artist SO was just enamored with that. That was missing in JJ, and it would have fit the film noire they were going for but didn't, outside of the music, seem to achieve.
OK, enough criticisms, over all, I did enjoy it and will check it out again next year.
