Search on after red panda escapes zoo in Eureka

http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Search-on-after-red-panda-escapes-zoo-in-Eureka-6646109.php

There's a red panda on the loose in California.

Eureka police and Sequoia Park Zoo staff are searching a small forested area adjacent to the zoo for a red panda that appears to have escaped sometime Thursday.

The North Coast Journal identifies the animal as Masala, one of the younger animals in the popular instillation at the zoo, which sits on the southeast corner of the Humboldt County city.

"The Red Panda is NOT a danger to humans. Zoo staff is concerned for the safety of the Red Panda," city officials said Thursday via press release.

Rusty the Red Panda Is Back in His Exhibit, Probably Plotting Another Escape

Fans of D.C.'s favorite furry fugitive, rejoice! Rusty the red panda, who entranced the nation last month when he escaped from his exhibit at the Smithsonian's National Zoo for a day on the lam through Adams Morgan, is back on display today.

Rusty, who zoo employees believe used rain-logged trees to facilitate his supposedly escape-proof habitat, was returned to the exhibit after a week and a half in quarantine following his adventure on the streets of D.C. While Rusty was away, zookeepers modified the red panda exhibit by trimming its trees and surrounding bamboo thickets so as to reduce the area on which Rusty and his fellow red panda, Shama, can climb. The visitor barrier up top was also raised by 30 inches.

Your move, Rusty.
