Having a hard time moving forward into job search mode

2 days ago I finished the last big cleaning task -- cleaning up the garage for the first time in 4 or 5 years. It's time to start moving forward. I was supposed to start filling out applications all week, but I started having severe insomnia Sunday night and didn't really recover until the week was nearly over. Now I'm sleeping ok (with meditation recordings playing all night).

Yesterday morning I realized I hadn't given myself a full day "off" in a bloody long time. Years? I don't know. There was always either work or some scheduled chore or other. So I gave myself yesterday off.

Today is the day. I must start filling applications. I'm just having a really hard time motivating myself for minimum wage retail jobs, which are about all that's available here.

I keep offering myself rewards to move forward, but no reward seems to cut it any more. And I'm sad and depressed.

2 days ago, Oaksley unexpectedly decided to join up with Neptune. There was no sign he was going to do it -- rather the opposite. He's been very shy about leaving the barn until I turn the horses out at noontime or so. And very, very loving. He would climb up my legs until I picked him up, and wrap his legs around my neck and nuzzle my face and neck and shoulders, purring. He followed me and the horses everywhere. Follow or watch me while cleaning the barn. Follow me while walking around the pasture. Follow me and the horses when I put them out. While I played with Dahli he would hang in the ring with us. The last time I lunged her, he stalked her from outside the circle and then, as she approached, would suddenly turn and sprint away. I videoed my last ride on Dahli -- he shows up in several spots on the video. Then I started the insomnia, and for a couple days spent less time with him because I was so tired and foggy. Still visiting, holding and playing with him several times a day, for for shorter time periods.

And then, the night after the afternoon I spotted Neptune at 4:30pm. I didn't sleep at all. At 2am the light on my front door came on. I ran to check -- when I put on the floodlights, I spotted Neptune trotting alongside the garden headed down to the barn. I went back to bed. A few minutes later, the light went on a 2nd time. And a few minutes after that, the light came on a 3rd time. I thought Neptune was walking back & forth in the front.

THe next morning, Oaksley was gone. I haven't seen him since. I had wondered if Neptune might be hanging out with that gray tiger that unexpected showed up when I first brought my kitties home. Now I'm thinking the 3 lights were the 3 of them.

I still put their food out at night and it's gone by morning. I checked last night at 9pm and most of it was gone. This morning, the remaining bit was gone. I can't believe Oaksley left me. Neptune, we expected. But not Oaksley.

I woke up at 3:45 or so this morning. A short time later the front lights came on. I ran to check, but didn't see anything for sure. I *may* have seen a light colored tail across the street headed into the dark, so maybe that was Oaksley and maybe the house light or something else startled him.

I'd guess that if you keep feeding them, sooner or later with the weather change, Oaksley will want to be back snug and warm.

I've lost two barn kitties this year after never losing one. It's really heartbreaking.

Good luck on the job search. I really hope you can find something interesting and inspiring

Big vibes coming your way

4. I'm hoping so, but they didn't stay in yesterdays downpour. Maybe a blizzard will bring them in.

I wasn't worried about Neptune because he was was about 9 months old when he was trapped last spring, and survived last year's nightmare winter, so this is the life he obviously prefers and thrives in. But Oaksley was found the day after Christmas by the side of the road at just 12 weeks. He's never really been on his own. He's not alone out there, I guess, or he'd come back. He was too hungry for attention to not be getting it from Neptune and maybe the other cat.

If I can get something to tide me over, I'm hoping to volunteer at the animal shelter so I can do interesting and inspiring work for the critters. I can write articles and take pics of the critters, as well as helping to care for them. I have an idea for an event series to run by their event coordinator. They'd been advertising for a fundraiser position, but they stopped advertising although I haven't seen a new name pop up in their staff...

I'm pretty damned great at finding people good-enough-for-now jobs while they look. I can put a few hours into that for you. You can PM me a location (within your willing travel radius...that is, don't say Indianapolis is Indy is 45 miles away and you're not willing to travel more than 15 miles.) if you want.

Particularly though, try Starbucks...you're clearly smart enough to do that job and they pay actually fairly well (Even if you start at minimum...it's minimum plus tips so that's another ~$3-4/hour.) It's not a job I'd want to do forever...but it'll pay the bills while you search.

I just got hired for the season by Barnes & Noble. I asked for $10 and got it with no argument...so now I'm thinking I asked for too little.

3. thank you. I'm in rural, central Maine. The nearest Starbucks is probably 30-40 miles away.

I don't think we have a barnes and noble, lol. Maybe in the "big city" down south in Portland.

We have a call center that I worked at twice. I parted company with them on good terms, but won't go back. Cannot stand the job or the culture there. And then we have the hospital/lab chain that just dumped me. We have tiny, proprietor-owned shops and restaurants that mostly close for winter. And we have some chain food places, although some of those don't make it here. And we have box stores. There are some nonprofits, but those jobs all go to people with connections, which I don't have.

I did the application. Getting myself there and getting it done helped me a lot, mentally. And then when I got home I was getting ready to walk the dogs and saw a car pulled over looking at my sign offering up my never-used snow blower for sale. They bought it on the spot -- yeah! I bought it a couple years ago and then chickened out and never used it. I accidentally asked too much for it -- I couldn't remember what I paid so stuck $100/BRO on the sign. Later I googled and saw them brand new on clearance for $119! But they hadn't done any research, just saw it, could see clearly it was unused -- never had gas in it, no marks anywhere. I forgot to bring it in out of the rain yesterday so the dust was washed off as well.

I'll do the UPS apps from home tomorrow and otherwise give myself another day off. And then next week drop off a volunteer application at the animal shelter. I can help with a number of things there, including PR, which will really make me happy. If I could do my old career again for low pay at a nonprofit that would be ideal...

5. Try the post office, too. There may be some seasonal extra work there.

Any of these near you?

There are 17 jobs listed for the State of Maine, if you just select Maine without specifying any particular
category of job.

about 40 minutes away. They don't say how many hours they are, but worth applying anyway.

Thank you. Hadn't seen that list before!
