The new Star Wars movie? It BETTER not suck.

I remember when The Phantom Menace came out...before it opened everyone thought, "oh, Return of the Jedi was twice as awesome as A New Hope so The Phantom Menace is going to be awesomer still."

And then out trotted Jar Jar Binks. All of a sudden 95 percent of the moviegoing world saw what would without Jar Jar be a perfectly serviceable "Darth Vader's boyhood" flick as an atrocity of biblical proportions.

After two years of hype for this movie, if this thing isn't awesomer than any movie has a right to be - if there's even a frame of suckage in the whole spectacle of awesomeness - someone's gonna steal a howitzer from the National Guard and use it to shell George Lucas's house flat.

Influence of the corporate swills who view the film as a giant ad for merch.

so, somebody shelling his house in response to SW:TFA being bad would be like invading Iraq in response to 9/11.

I remember a lot of hype for Phantom Menace back in 1999, but most people I knew at the time thought Return of the Jedi was good, but not at the same level as the original movie or Empire Strikes Back. I was 32 when Phantom Menace came out and most every guy around my age hated the cutesy Ewoks, thinking Lucas had gone overboard to appeal to little kids... not to mention the fact that cool guys Han and Lando were turned into bland wimps)

If the two most recent Star Trek movies and the television series, Lost are any indication, I have a rather wonderful suspicion that I'll enjoy it.

And if I don't, well... it being just a movie and all, I'm certain my life will continue unabated regardless of whether it's a flop or a smash.

It will be awesome. You will not be disappointed. The only thing I'm a bit nervous about is excessive lens flares. But JJ Abrams will do an abso-fucking-lutely spectacular job on this.

no midichlorians! I'm an atheist, but I liked that the Force was this mysterious thing that you could (if you wanted) attribute to God, Buddha, Allah, Jehovah or whatever if you wanted. The prequels killed that for me

Yes the movie sucked - oh boy did it suck - but...

for months people were trying to talk only well of it or make excuses

it was some time before they were admitting it was a piece of crap

this new movie - if bad - will have the same effect - fans will not be able to admit it for some time
