(28,394 posts)It is beautifully bright and sunny though. It is supposed to warm up for the rest of the week.
Happy Bird Day, In_The_Wind!

(72,300 posts)We are having windows installed next Monday. It's gonna be tons of fun keeping the house warm enough for the birds while the job is being done.

(28,394 posts)Best money we ever spent on this house. They really keep it quiet and no more drafty windows. I hope you get a warm spell to protect the birdies.

(72,300 posts)The doves cage is sitting on a sturdy coffee table that was built by Boy Scouts before 1972 (my acquisition date). I've got an oil heater next to them. I plan to wrap my electric blanket around them until the house returns to a normal 75 degrees.

(53,339 posts)L.A. region will get rain, snow, high winds, and 15' surf. And that's just this morning, as we get hit with the first of three storms. The second storm will be the strongest, they say.
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)I'll bet the surfers are happy about big waves.
Wait Did you say snow ?
pinboy3niner
(53,339 posts)They'll get snow at higher elevations in the mountains. For me, it sounds like a good day to nap.

(86,803 posts)It stayed in the teens (that's above 0 degrees F as opposed to the subzero temps we've had for over a week) last night, hell it's like we're having us a heatwave!
fizzgig
(24,146 posts)northern colorado only gets a few weeks of ass-biting cold a year, but it hasn't hit yet and the anticipation is somehow even worse.
Last week was just the early blast, we should be getting another before long, but now it's pretty warm. Almost hit +40F yesterday and today. My roof slid, there was a good three feet of snow on it, felt like an earthquake. The out building next to me slide off too and hit my wall, that was an interesting moment. At least we have snow.
fizzgig
(24,146 posts)but i'm quite comfortable outside. the husband thinks i'm nuts.

(86,803 posts)when it's really cold without getting all bundled up sometimes... I have one neighbor and when he's home we walk to each other's cabin in just sweats and slippers even when it's storming, unless the snow is really deep, then there will be boots and maybe a jacket. It's only 50ft. from one porch to the other. I step out to look at the stars or meteors in the middle of the night too.

(15,812 posts)But my driveway is still quite slick.
In_The_Wind
(72,300 posts)It was above freezing everyday after the snow but once it hits upstate New York it usually stays until the thaw.
MissB
(15,812 posts)years or so. We didn't get much - about 1.5 inches, but the freezing rain on top of that did the city in. No school for two days - the teenage boys are BORED and want to go back to school - and I've been off work for those two days.
We don't salt roads around here so it just has to thaw. Slowly.
I got to watch three cars end up in the ditch on our blind corner last night in a period of 10 minutes. Called the county sheriff's office and suggested they come deal, as two of the three drivers just walked away. Turns out the city had closed a nearby road and ours was on everyone's gps as an alternative. Three more cars were in the ditch further down our street.

(29,414 posts)Good thing I decided to position my car about midway instead of backed all the way up as usual. I haven't yet been out to inspect damage, though.
The roof on our apartment was replaced a couple of years ago with an all-white (reflective) rubber material. Now, the only thing I'd be concerned about would be the roof-a/c units.
TexasBushwhacker
(20,219 posts)I'm not close enough to the carports to hear anything, but I looked outside a few times and didn't hear any hail. I'm near 290 and 610.
I was at my mother's house in Sharpstown during a hailstorm several years ago. Quarter sized hail just poured down. Below every roof valley, the hail just piled up. The next day the roofers were knocking on doors, handing out business cards. Everyone in the neighborhood got new shingles!
kentauros
(29,414 posts)The roof on this apartment must be quite sturdy, because it didn't have any damage. However, my patio plants were pummeled, as were the tops of the trees in our courtyard. It looked like they lost about the top three feet of leaves.
Yesterday's storm didn't last as long, nor had nearly as much hail. I saw the piles at a friend's townhouse not far from here (Meyerland area.) I only saw that because my street was still flooded. We didn't seem to have it pile up as much.

(10,164 posts)I like weather like this. When it's fully light, I plan to take a nice bike ride. Portland cyclists tend to be prepared for rain, and it's really only sprinkling...
