(34,109 posts)I have to sleep with noise and there is nothing to be done for it, it is mechanical damage after 40 + years sitting in front of French Horns and Trumpets. I am also almost deaf but my hearing aids do not have the tinnitus canceling part since I can't use that during my music.
Have you checked into those types of hearing aids that help? I hear they are very good.
TexasBushwhacker
(20,190 posts)at least last time it was tested. I'm on Medicare, which doesn't cover hearing aids and I can't afford them anyway.
MuseRider
(34,109 posts)I got these because I was having a hard time playing in the orchestra without them. Most days I do not wear them because I am terrified of losing them on the farm or getting them wet. You can't insure them either.
They do make a type of hearing aid that blocks the tinnitus by using another sound. I hear (lol) that they work pretty well. Still, they are darned expensive.

(6,011 posts)My younger friend's husband has it, he's in his mid-late 40's I think (haven't met him yet).
She told me his tinnitus went away when he cut out salt from his diet.
MuseRider
(34,109 posts)There are some things in the drug stores that apparently work. I know people who have used them and said they worked. Give it a try, why not? Mine is mechanical and cannot be fixed that way. If yours is not there may be a chance you can get rid of it! That would be wonderful.

(6,011 posts)My husband has the kind you have, I believe. Not from the horn section, but from electric routers, table saws, and other loud woodworking tools.
Very low frequency bass does something bad to his tiny inner ear bones, and they hurt at times when boom box "enhanced" vehicles drive by.
MuseRider
(34,109 posts)similar. I hope he can find some relief. I hate to think there is pain involved. At least mine does not hurt, that is horrible on top of the constant noise.

(3,290 posts)I have no idea how I got there, like usually happens, but came across Spiegel im Spiegel (violin and piano) and found it mesmerizing. Not sure how I would categorize it emotionally, sad, serene, calming, definitely interesting. It has become a favorite. I still have to explore more of his work and will look for 'Magnificat'.

(15,740 posts)I was living on the island of Crete in the mid 1970s and would listen to shortwave broadcasts of classical music, since TV was not really available then and there.
Although he was not exactly a contemporary of that era, his music does invoke to me those times and places so very far away.
