I wanted to warn anyone who wants to buy a new goodie on Amazon-if they offer a "drop & spill" coverage-do NOT fall for it.
I bought a new tablet. Drop damage is common & I have had to replace 3 units over the last year. They were cheap ones so it cost me $ each time.
I just got a larger tablet for watching video. They offered a "drop & spill" warrantee. I fell for it.
I got my confirmation e-mail just now. Surprise suprrise surprise-the contract has exclusions of "what is NOT covered".
The contract EXCLUDES damages caused by accidents or environment. So this is worthless for actual drops & spills. PLEASE DO NOT buy-It is a SCAM!.

I canceled the purchase. Just wanted to warn others

(2,533 posts)Not the actual Amazon tablet just sold by them.
But it offers this "drop & spill" coverage-I think it is totally misleading. It is a separate purchase & the company is called "Smart Guard" protection plan.
The real company is "Warrentech" and it is just an extended warranty company-like most "insurance" companies it is a scam.
The actual terms & conditions are what the claim is based on. And it excludes accidents, misuse & environmental damage among a host of others exclusions. What is a drop or a spill but an accident, misuse or environmental damage-in lawyer speak.
As a former claims adjustor-this I know well. Should have never purchased based on description. And Amazon should stop selling them or change the description.

(2,533 posts)I must say I did not expect that but it is the right thing.
I reviewed the e-mail confirmation and the terms & conditions with the Amazon rep. They agreed it was misleading & told me they would pull it for review.
I hope they do cover actual drops & spills-but until the terms & conditions say they do-Nope.
Anyhow I would avoid "drop & spill" coverage & (mea culpa) check the t&c before purchase.

Thanks for the warning, though I'm the kind of gadget owner that is so careful in handling and storing my devices, that I never consider such warranties. I always read with mouth agape at reviews people give about the supposed low-quality of workmanship on the same devices I own and yet for them, it's always due to how badly/roughly they handle their devices, beyond even normal clumsiness.
