In town for few days and we might cataclysm a movie at El Capitan as part of the experience. Is it worth the trip?

(60,346 posts)We did that once several years ago.
We drove up to Ventura and on the way back on of our party needed to use a restroom. We pulled in there and ended up making it part of our visit.

(9,901 posts)For many years we took the kids and their friends to see the premiers of Disney movies there. Beautiful 30's to 40's Art Deco theater, old fashion pipe organ on a raising dais.
They always had a display of the current move's costumes and props on the lower level under the stage, what's not to like?

(23 posts)I used to work for Disney and set up many premieres there. Best seat in the house for sound and picture. We used to seat the directors there. It's a nice theater.

(1,232 posts)But if you want genuine LA Culture and great food, visit Olvera Street. Cross the street and have a look at Union Station with its iconic, Art Deco architecture.
Cross the road back and stop at Phillippe's, home of the original French Dip. Then keep wandering a few more blocks and see the last vestiges of China town, the real, original China town. There are some incredible restaurants there, go to the ones filled with Chinese people, they know what's good on those streets. Great shopping for trinkets and cool junk too.
Olvera street has kick ass taquitos, on the small stands, the benches, on the other side. Appreciate the very last bits of spanish colonial architecture in some short walk throughs, and visit the mission house with its high ceilings, courtyard and beamed ceilings.
That's the kind of 'culcha' we need.... seriously. Universal Studios ain't it.

(100,107 posts)That's where the local movie buffs and celebrities go to catch a flick. Plus they have a full bar and their popcorn is some of the best around.
