(806 posts)creative inspiration - they are simply copying an existing film. As a general rule, the only kinds of remakes I tolerate are the following:
a) A new adaptation of a novel/play where the first adaptation was botched
b) A new adaptation of a novel/play where the original film was hampered by the technical limitations of its time (i.e. the 1959 "Ben-Hur" was not redundant because the 1925 version was a silent film)

(63,220 posts)The remakes of The Thing, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, The Fly and True Grit were all greatly superior to the original films.
Granted, many remakes suck, but there are enough good ones to keep me interested.
