This is much more bizarre than Brexit. This should be the focus of Britain's headlines tomorrow

Who the hell watches such a small tv? These are Britons watching the news on Brexit. I had no idea people were watching such small tvs during dinner, or even had tvs this small in their houses. This small tv is making me question reality itself.

Some cultures manage to make do with modest living quarters and compact furniture. Not everyone is a space-grabbing, resource-gobbling American.

I was perfectly happy with my 13" BW TV, and would still be using it if they hadn't forced digital TV on everyone, like it or not.

Try checking out a Tokyo or Hong Kong apartment some time.

The places you mentioned are that way because there's no space. If they had more space they'd be enjoying it. But really, when I bought my 55" tv the guy at the store did not also sell me 10 acres of cleared land to set it up. It would fit in that couple's room in the photo. I know some people don't care that much about a large tv, or it isn't within their means if they live in a 3rd world country, but in America large tvs are pretty standard. Watching films on a large screen is so much more enjoyable. It's similar to the difference between having a window the size of a ritz cracker and a 6 foot window overlooking the horizon. Why wouldn't you want the bigger one? I really hope that in Britain, when you walk into a movie theater there isn't a 40" tv sitting on a table.

Just kidding

The smallest one I have is 52 inches. Anything smaller than that I have to wear my glasses to see. And I really do not like to wear my glasses at home. At least that was my excuse for buying a big tv.

When I can afford to replace it, I doubt I'll go any higher than 40". If I want a home theater I'll win the lottery first and then have an actual theater built. And one that does not stretch 4x3 ratios to 16x9, dammit!!1!1!!!

If I could afford dual monitors, I would have them, because I need more monitor "real estate" when working on graphics. I don't need more than 40" for the TV. Not a home-theater buff, other than how I have mentioned it already.

And I would rather spend more money on my computer than my television. I'd love to have a dedicated RAID for all of my media and a nice pair of AudioEngine speakers and subwoofer (partly to indirectly let my downstairs neighbor begin to understand how subsonics rattle whole buildings when he's playing his shoot-em-up games at high volume.) Playing the last cut to the (tribal) soundtrack of Apocalypse Now would be a fine teaching moment on subsonics versus rigid structures

Other than some minor pixel problems, the Sharp is still fine for me. And I sit only eight feet from the TV as it is. It's not like I have a home-theater set-up in this apartment. I even still just use the speakers in the TV

It could be that their flat is that small, making anything larger impractical. It could be this is all they can afford. It could be they're not glued to it 24/7, so the size becomes immaterial. It could be they're just not that into huge, material possessions.

If it obviously works for them, why does it matter? I just hope they still have the TV and a place to live once Brexit fully plays out.

I commonly watch news videos, like those posted here on DU, on a 10" X 6" screen.

Our 37" television only plays movies. No cable, no satellite, no broadcast.

I LIKE IT that way.
