I will always remember today as the day I found out what the lyrics are not...

For years I thought they were singsaying

straddled the line,
disco and brine,
I don't know why
I'm after you.

They are not that, it seems. Good poetry is always full of wonderful surprises

With his song? I never knew a song could be a murder weapon, although I suppose any Doobie Brothers song could make you sick to death, like poison.

like 8 ish. The album Rio is an outstanding new wave masterpiece -- Duran Duran has never been given the credit they deserve for writing some extremely innovative and fantastic electronic music (even the master Brian Eno has said so).

I swear I always heard it correctly...teehee...but I have several friends who thought the fabulous Head East song "Never been any Reason" says "woman with the sweet lovin' better than a white LIE" instead of the correct "white line" Ah, what innocent kids we were...

That song is the King, Queen and Grand Poo-bah of Mondegreens all wrapped into one. For years, I thought it was "wrapped up like a dunce, another rotor in the night." Never have been able to hear "runner", since it sounds just like "rotor."

A friend as a child thought that the line 'You don't have to say you love me; just be close at hand' was 'You don't have to say I'm lovely, just because I am!' I still prefer her version.

Until I read the lyrics quite recently, I heard the Robert Burns song 'Bide ye yet and bide ye yet/ Ye little ken what may betide ye yet' as 'Bide ye yet and bide ye yet/ Your little kimono and tidy hat'. I knew it couldn't be that, but that's how it always sounded to me.

But I thought the next line was

"I'm on the hunt, I'm after you"

All respect to Duran Duran, but I like mine better. Nobody likes a whiner
