Star Wars: Episode VIII, the franchise's next outing which has been directed by Looper's Rian Johnson, has been officially christened The Last Jedi.

(56,829 posts)I wonder if they will also change things up in editing with the death of Carrie Fisher. I hope if she really was supposed to play a major role in episode 9 they recast her and don't use CGI to recreate her. The CGI Leia in Rogue One was okay because it was only for a few seconds - but, the CGI Grand Moff Tarkin was kind of creepy.

The whole thing is fucking sad!

(56,829 posts)To Rey's character. Or, maybe he already did train her and something happened (i.e., why was she good with The Force almost immediately?)
haele
(12,682 posts)That was hinted at in Rogue One. Just being a Force sensitive would be a conduit to the probability or "luck" field the Force generates in a continuous move towards "Balance".
Rey was already good with her quarterstaff, was a quick study, and apparently had an innate understanding of patterns and puzzles that allowed her to be a natural pilot and tinkerer/mechanic. If Rey had just stories and rumors about the Jedi, the Force itself should be able to manipulate events around her until she gets the training to be able to control her own Force abilities.
That's one of the few ways I can think of to logically translate an apparently supernatural concept into a natural phenomenon.
To paraphrase, "the first time advances are introduced, they seem like magick to those who don't understand the science that advanced them.

(37,748 posts)How many titles have they reused?
Hayabusa
(2,135 posts)Star Wars: Rogue Squadron III: Rebel Strike > Star Wars: Rebels: Rebel Strike (a browser game)
Shadows of the Empire > Shadow of the Empire (proposed title for Episode VII)
Empire's End (last miniseries of the Dark Empire Trilogy) > Aftermath: Empire's End
Bloodlines (Second book in the Legends of the Force series) > Bloodline (a novel about Princess Leia)
The Last Jedi (Marvel Star Wars #49) > The Last Jedi (last novel in the Coruscant Nights series) > Episode VIII Title
And then there's characters they've taken and changed slightly like Jyn Erso and Cassian Ander being Kyle Katarn and Jan Ors in all but name, as well as Kylo Ren sharing several traits with Darth Caedus, Jacen Solo.

(56,829 posts)to somebody in the original movies - maybe Luke? I've also heard that Obi-Wan was a potential father, too. Since the Jedi were essentially finished in Revenge of the Sith, he may have sown a few wild oats before becoming the old hermit Ben Kenobi.
