my face and sat beside me until I clued in and threw it for him to fetch. When have your pets woken you up?
(Updated) I got one of the slow release cat food thingies. Cats are very bewildered. They keep looking at me to do something. It is going to be a long night. I hope it works.

(11,862 posts)They would jump up on my bed ready to play..I would pick them up and put them back on the floor.
Took about ten times over three or four nights till they got the idea.
Their retribution...when they were older (I was living on second floor WITHOUT air conditioning) they would walk close to the wall where the only fan was running, unplugging it...over and over and over...
I LOVE me some kittehs...two of them died in my arms about 18 years latter.

I still miss him.

(10,173 posts)She was constantly at my side, so I put a doggy bed in my bedroom for her to sleep on . If I had a tough night of tossing and turning she would scratch the bed in concern. The scratching would wake me up, but sweet all the same. I didn't mind.

(118,622 posts)had a cold or something and been flat on my back during the day one of my cats is usually very excited to have the extra nap time with mom and takes especially long to find the exact spot to curl up on my bed. Vibes to you.

(15,805 posts)cold, wet, slobbery end on my face. The long strip of faux-fur with googly eyes is attached to a rod and it can be dragged or tossed. Since Jack likes to play catch, too, I throw his cat-snake and he hauls it back, making growling and chirping noises as he walks. He usually brings it to me around 4am and I throw it off, but he brings it back and stands over my head, poking at my face, head butting my nose and chattering away; clearly he expects to be accommodated.

(118,622 posts)Yes. I bought mine a whole bunch of tiny stuffed animals when he was a kitten. His favourite was Octo the Octopus. What a mess of dust and cat saliva that little thing was after no time. But I refused to throw it out. Cats come first in this house.

(385 posts)Had a kitty once who survived distemper and was a little peculiar. As an adult he fell in love with wool. Got shut in a drawer full of sweaters and never let out a peep for three days. A friend was napping on the couch one afternoon and woke up with the cat on his chest humping his sweater. Several interesting lives worthy of a biography.

(1,303 posts)The dog is about 16 years old and can't always hold till morning. The heaviest cat thinks I am her bed and frequently I wake because my whole arm has gone numb from her weight or I feel her pawing my face letting me know her bowl is empty. The youngest cat just walking around all over us and the bed trying to find the most comfortable spot to lay down or sometimes uses my tummy as a springboard to the tall dresser on his way to the curtain rod. The other cat lays on top of my feet so if I roll over she is in the way....

(11,686 posts)I thought that my cats were the only ones who did that!! I have had a lot of cats who never would have even thought of bringing something back to you and I have never known anybody elses cat who does that. I have a girl who has always fetched and then about a year ago I got a boy who just by odd chance does the same. I found these twisted wires at the pet store that are colorful and bounce well and that is one of their favorite toys. I have to make sure whatever toys I get they can easily carry so they can bring them to me.

(290 posts)I had one cat that when she was hungry in the morning, would knock the air flow tube off my CPAP mask. I think she knew I was pretending as she never did it when I was really asleep. It always worked to get me up and feed her. My other two cats were sitting by the food bowls waiting for her to get me up.

(1,018 posts)He's a Devon Rex - known for fetching. He likes to sleep in, though. My other Devon Rex will go with the flow, but both DRX's are heat seekers and will plaster themselves to me and I get hot and wake up! My 14 lb female rescue is the real problem. She loves to eat (I do not free feed) and if there is a hint of daylight, she will start making noises, louder and louder, till I get "it."

(208 posts)If she jumps on me, I'll wake up for a moment. That's it. Could be any time. Deep sleeper I am. We had one that used to smack us in the face in the morning. Funny guy. Lived long into his 20s.

(118,622 posts)The clue is I think to not make it fun for him. He was biting me for no reason and I started to skreetch to make it not rewarding and it worked. He only nips when I really frustrate him. He does scratch though. Wish I could stop him from doing that.

(86,537 posts)beautiful torty-point siamese, really strong personality but an amazing companion and protector. She would wake me up by bringing a mouse in to chase around the cabin pre-dawn on occasion, always left the remains in front of the kitchen garbage. If I was taking a nap and someone entered the gated yard, she would come inside, get on top of me and growl while looking at the "intruder". The best time was when she came in all wet, at 3am, and lay down next to my face... she was letting me know that one of the buried garden hoses had burst and there was a ten foot fountain in the yard! She would also give me an am weather update if there was precip, by sitting next to me face to wake me up, rain or snow. Best kitty ever.

(86,537 posts)end up with strong personality cats, this one came bounding out of a hay shed and demanded that I do something. So I took her home. She insisted on being an only child and her best friends were my friends' dogs... and the gang of squirrels who lived in our trees. They taught her to run, full gallop, along the top of a chain-link fence, to scamper round a tree trunk like lightning and they played "tag" together. I have a pretty strong personality too, must be why we end up with each other.

(111,245 posts)would sit patiently and wait for my breathing to change, indicating I was starting to wake up. He'd help me out with a big velvet paw laid on the end of my nose. When I woke up fully, he'd use that paw to stroke my hair.
He was an irascible old bugger, but he seemed to like me and was the only cat who ever petted me back.

(22,061 posts)He'll jump on the bed and start lifting them with his paw until you hold them up for him to get under. If he really gets cold, he'll follow me around yowling for me to go to bed.

(118,622 posts)wanted to. I was thinking it would be extra cozy there. But she is not a lap cat so what was i thinking. She will follow me around and try and get me to pet her. But her tolerance for cozy is about one second. My newest cat loves to go under the covers. I don't know how he breathes. But he certainly likes to hide under my duvet.

(7,527 posts)due to his tendency to gorge and throw up.
He's gotten real good at telling time. Even when my clock radio doesn't go off, he knows when 6am is. This was proven when the time changed and he waited till 7am for one day, then got wise that the radio was going off early.
He knows special Vulcan pressure points on me that hurt if he presses them lightly.
Or stands on them violating the laws of mass and physics by exerting 25 pounds of downward pressure within a square inch by standing on me with all four paws close together when he only weighs 11 pounds.
Or vaults over me repeatedly like we're counting sheep.
And is good at surprising me with a touch-and-go launch across the bedroom from my stomach right over my bladder.
If I take a nap in the afternoon, he can still recognize 6pm on the clock because he starts this all over again.
My favorite retaliation - if I make any movement like I'm getting up, he flees to the kitchen to stand by his dish. One day after a particularly well-placed touch and go, I got up, he happily bounds out of my room, and I just closed the door and went back to bed.
This cartoon is not even kidding. I love Simon's Cat.

of what must be going on in their minds. My Buddy will put all four paws together when he is on top of me and darn like you say it is alot of weight. I hate to shoo him off me but I don't think I should suffer when he does that.

(7,527 posts)Definitely take them to the vet. Mine had chronic IBD and WBC was >50% which is usually a sign of something worse, but after fixing his stomach problem he's fine. The cheaper dry food he'd been eating all his life had become intolerable, and he was dehydrated, so I switched to wet food.
Plus he has a psychological gorging problem, and apparently a smaller than normal stomach.
First meal is the most likely time for him to throw up, as his stomach is full of acid in anticipation of breakfast. I give him a teaspoonful of wet food and let him digest that for an hour and he usually handles it.
Then I feed him about 1/3 of a 5oz can three times in the AM and another can 3 times in the PM. He gets an occasional handful of expensive grain-free dry Blue Wilderness food that he likes as an occasional snack.
After steroids from the vet to help his IBD and controlled feedings, he's gone from vomiting 1-2 times per day to once every couple of weeks; usually when I goof up and feed him more than he can handle at once.
applegrove
(118,622 posts)get that once a day. No problems after that. It is only after the expensive dry food that they occasionally get sick. If that does not work I'll take them to the vet.

(385 posts)Got Mr. X (name withheld to protect the guilty) at age 9 and 22 pounds. He is now down to an appropriate 14 lbs thanks to a large plastic egg. Poke a hole in one half, fill with dry food, and Mr. X has to chase it all around the kitchen, knocking out pellets one or two at a time. Exercise and portion control.

(205,224 posts)He'd latch onto a toy and expect it to be thrown - constantly! If I tried to go to sleep, he'd drop it on my face, LOL. The encouraging thing was that he lived a very long life, was looking at his 19th birthday...

(1,752 posts)have fun jumping on me and chasing it around. It kind of ruins the whole night for me as I have to leap out of bed, find a bthrobe or some sort of clothing apparel, find the mouse, capture it with a towel, take it down stairs and outside (hence the need for clothing), and then change the sheets ... just because. I try not to get too mad at the cat because from his POV, he is just wanting to share the fun.

(14,624 posts)brought a live roach into my bed . . . twice!
I had just moved to New Orleans and was living in a renovated, historic, apartment building. The interior was really nice and very up to date, but the shell structure was several hundred years old.
Luckily, I was awake when she brought the roach onto the bed (very bad insomnia). I could feel her batting at something, like she was trying to catch it. I jumped up and turned on the light. I only managed to scare the roach, not catch it.
About an hour later, Lala did the same thing. I finally kicked her out of the bedroom. There is nothing I hate more than roaches!
