Help! What do you do when a week has passed and you haven't heard?

I had an interview last Tuesday and was told that they expected to have the second round of interviews this week. I thought the interview went very well but I haven't heard anything from the employer.

What would you do? Would you send an email affirming your interest in the job? If so, how would you word it?

BTW, I did send a thank you note following the interview last week.

I really would like this job. Hell, in fact, I would love any full time job at this point.

Breath in and out, try to relax until Friday, at least that is what I would do. Good luck.

that's 8 days since the interview.

I think I might call. I haven't looked for a job in a while but I seem to remember being in a situation like yours. What can be the worst that could happen? If they haven't called because they are busy and have kind of put the job search on hold, your calling to inquire shouldn't turn them off. If they've decided not to call you, than you still really aren't hurting your chances since the decision has already been made, and at least you'll know to focus energy elsewhere.

You have some good ideas but don't want to call or write until I know exactly what to say. I am afraid of sounding desperate.

I understand completely. What kind of job is it? Is there a hiring committee or just an HR person who coordinates things?

Normally four people but two staff left at same time.

The two remaining are the Executive Director and the COO. I spent an hour with each of them last Tuesday.
They said they were looking at three people total and would hire either 2 FT or 1 FT and 1 PT.

Or did you have separate meetings? Was there one you had better rapport with?

I thought I had good rapport with both. We are far-ranging conversations.

I sent each one a thank you note by email.

I started to draft an email tonight but really didn't like what I came up with. That's why I started this thread.

is that I recently hired a graduate assistant (I work in academia). I had to interview people 2 days before everyone left for the holidays. I was so overwhelmed, partly b/c we REALLY needed the help of the GA we had yet to hire, I wasn't able to contact people as quickly as i wanted to. If there are 2 people in the office where you interviewed and they are trying to fill a few part-time and a full-time position PLUS get work done, they may just be running behind.
