Can anyone help me ID this piece of Rookwood?
I visited one of my favorite haunts yesterday can came home with the dirtiest, most wax encrusted piece of Rookwood that looks like some type of a hand held candle-holder. IT is 8 inched tall, has a rear almost full length handle and the sides cut away to the front base, almost 2 inches above the base itself. The diameter of the base is about 5 inches.
The interior of this piece is a candle-holder with a wide lip. The color is a rusty red shading to greenish at the top.
After washing it down, there is a small chip on the base that I could not see with all the dirt.
This description is not good and I have been all over the Internet looking for something similar.
I would imagine it was held to walk around in candlelight with the back of the flame shaded so the flame would not go out.
Typical Rookwood mark with # 2226, Roman numerals XV11.
Some one of these days I'll get a Digital camera, sure would help!
Suggestions would be appreciated
