, I started out with the volume rather high through my headphones. Thanks for posting. I think I like Basie the best out of all the big band leaders from his era, but particularly more so with his work from the 1950's when he adapted to incorporate Bop style solos.

Yes - should've warned you. I'm used to it from dancing that Basie period , after he'd reformed his big band , being a personal favorite.

He does similar here but less so :



Although not credited here this is Basie too. Check out the band coming in @ 2.16 and Basie tinkling away @2.38.

It's interesting, I am always trying to find transitional recordings that seem to point from one era to the next ( like Claude Thornhill's recordings that announced BeBop right in the middle of some pretty sweet Swing).

This recording seems perfectly poised between the Jazz-era jazz of the 1920's and the Swing that would be everywhere just a few years later.

....and the way they can clean up these old recordings nowadays! Wow!
