Reid State Park & Black Pond, Maine

The Reid State Park pictures were taken the day before Sandy hit. The park is located in Georgetown, Me.

Black Pond is in the Belgrade Lakes Region just North-West of Augusta.

It was nice to be home in October for a long weekend with some great friends!

Enjoy!

Black Pond

A friend of mine said "Hey, let's take a drive down Chesterville ridge road and check out the Eskers. It's a deposit of rocks and boulders left over from a glacier." I, having lived in the area until I was 19 and driven that road a hundred times without seeing the Eskers, said "Sure, lets go!"

After driving the entire 6 miles of the ridge road we didn't find any large rocks or boulder collections, but it was still a great ride. Upon returning to camp we looked up a more detailed definition of Eskers and found out it can also be a deposit of gravel and smaller rocks. Well, the Chesterville ridge road is LOADED with gravel pits and rock quarries on both sides. We used to go there to target practice at least once a year when I lived in the area. Eskers hiding right in plain sight the whole time, but at least we learned something new.

Cheers,
RDR
