(68,644 posts)Sometimes pics take a while to load, but even with a reload I can't see the moon.

(60,010 posts)We get good moon views down here on clear nights, very little light pollution, and wouldn't ya know it...I now have old eyes and cannot see the damn thing sharply unless I use the binoculars.
Nice pic, and saves me the trouble to stepping out into the cold.

Thank you...

(1,576 posts)For many years I wondered why we have never given 'the moon' a name besides 'the moon'. Sure its 'a moon' but it deserves better than 'the moon'. And true it is 'our moon' but is 'the moon' truly befitting.
If an extra terrestrial come to visit and asked, "What is the name of your moon." we'd sound pretty inane answering, "The moon."
It would be a lot cooler if we could answer, "Shiva" or "Cheddar" or "rdking647"
I digress. Again, wonderful shot. Keep them coming.

(38,958 posts)Just got a 500mm lens and perhaps you would be able to let me know what your settings were for this shot. I am wanting to play with it a bit.

(5,113 posts)w 500mm lens is a big piece of glass. and your using it at maximum zoom and even then you have to crop (this is a 100% crop) so any vibration of the lens detracts from the sharpness. moderate wind is enough. you also have to try multiple shots. some will be sharper than others just due to wind currents in the upper atmosphere.

(45,851 posts)If you have the room PCs are a disposable appliance these days, we are awash in them and used ones can be had cheap in any metro area of size, someone actually gave me a perfect working WinXP computer the other day.
You could probably get one on Amazon or Ebay for well under $100 with shipping.
If you want to put up some files on a sharing site I'd run them for you and send you the results. I have stuff going on in the background all the time and I've got pretty good with Registax and Deep Sky Stacker both, it doesn't take me long to set up a run if I have the files.
