model shoot

i dont shoot people. and ive never done portraits. but i had the opportunity to go to a steampunk photo shoot with 3 professional models, with professionally done makeup. 3 models 3 sets

these are a couple of what i think are the best of the shoot.
id appreciate and comments/criticisisms,suggestions especially from those that do this type of shooting.
i didnt set up the lighting,it was preset for me

Obviously not what I do, but these are great shots. Good for you for branching out.

Looks to be a softbox or barn door for the key light and perhaps another softbox for the fill. It looks like two accent lights were used coming from each side, perhaps snoots or some other type of hard light.

In the future you might want to make a lighting diagram which shows the different types of lights used, or at least take a wide angle shot which shows the lighting setup.

But I think you should set the lighting next time. It might be professional, but it doesn't do a thing for me.

I really like the 3rd photo.

In in the 4th photo the model's face needs more light. The model's chin needs to come up some.

And at some level I think these type of shoots are good for getting people out of their comfort zone but after doing a few of them, ages ago, they're not my cup of tea.

The good ones allow some level of control like moving the lighting, props and model direction but the fully canned ones pretty much guarantee a reasonable result but doesn't really give you much of a learning experience. Oh, and the bad ones, don't ask, suffice it to say if I was looking to cast a creepy photographer you couldn't swing a camera bag without hitting one.
