(60,010 posts)Had no idea Lauper did a song with that title.

(90,785 posts)I never knew Collins did a cover of it until recently.

(9,314 posts)go for the photo that is prettier or be self-indulgent and go with the one that's a departure from the norm for me and is based on a song that I like more?
Beautiful submissions so far!
Mira
(22,380 posts)that type of decision. Which to enter - I suffer.........
ohheckyeah
(9,314 posts)go with something that you normally wouldn't. I don't know. Still trying to decide. My two possible entries are entirely different.

(28,501 posts)First contest in a long time, but my photo jumped into my head, fully formed and understood how I could execute it, the second this category was suggested. I never stage photos, but Pete (and his passing) inspired me. As does this very Taoist passage from the Ecclesiastes.

Glad someone else was able to use that song! 🏄

(31,402 posts)I just have to share the John Lennon Graffiti Wall in Prague.
No great shot--just to show we were there--and some info

(22,380 posts)I would give a lot to be able to see this myself. Thank you so much for showing it.
A "conglomeration" of art.

(46,436 posts)Not as cool as yours, but the best I could think of. I had some "long and winding road" pics and "climb every mountain" pics, but I just kind of liked the expression on this guy's face -- and his belly button.
Solly Mack
(90,785 posts)'What are you doing? Why are you looking at me? What? I'm just being me.'
and the belly button. I love belly buttons. I point to them on my dogs and say "belly button!" - which they find odd, judging by the looks I get.

(14,040 posts)I had originally picked another song for this photo but Alfredo got in with it before I did. So I had to find another. This one is more fitting for my image, I think.

(22,380 posts)I listened to the song. (Country Music still escapes my radar really well)
So, are you coming to see me?
Wondering and hoping.

(22,380 posts)it is always such an inspiration to hear it, and the amount of emotion it evokes is huge.
Here is a photo of the entrance to the Dakota. I took it just before I entered Central Park and took the photo I submitted to the contest.
You guys are my friends and know I'm not always stupid, so I don't have to be too embarassed to share with you that I walked up to the guards and asked: "Is this a famous building?"
An important bit of learning ensued.
And had I not asked the question, I may not have seen the beautiful memorial to "Imagine".

(9,314 posts)What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
War, it ain't nothing
But a heartbreaker
War, friend only to the undertaker
Ooooh, war
It's an enemy to all mankind
The point of war blows my mind
War has caused unrest
Within the younger generation
Induction then destruction
Who wants to die
Aaaaah, war-huh
Good God y'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it, say it, say it
War, huh
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Uh-huh
War, huh, yeah
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again y'all
War, huh, good God
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
War, it ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War, it's got one friend
That's the undertaker
Ooooh, war, has shattered
Many a young mans dreams
Made him disabled, bitter and mean
Life is much to short and precious
To spend fighting wars these days
War can't give life
It can only take it away
Ooooh, war, huh
Good God y'all
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Say it again
War, whoa, Lord
What is it good for
Absolutely nothing
Listen to me
War, it ain't nothing but a heartbreaker
War, friend only to the undertaker
Peace, love and understanding
Tell me, is there no place for them today
They say we must fight to keep our freedom
But Lord knows there's got to be a better way
Ooooooh, war, huh
Good God y'all
What is it good for
You tell me
Say it, say it, say it, say it
War, huh
Good God y'all
What is it good for
Stand up and shout it
Nothing

(27,453 posts)Being older, I have an amazing long term memory. Where Have All the flowers Gone? was the very first record I ever bought. I was 12 and it was a 45 rpm. Can't remember what was on the flip side though. 🎼🎶

(27,453 posts)1962. Been doing some googling and that rings a bell. I remember some harmony in the voices.
So much nostalgia here. I think this was when my liberal roots took hold. I grew up in a Republican family but the music of the 60s taught me about social justice.

(28,501 posts)I'm at the tail end of the boomers (born in '64) but my much older sister played me all her music and it completely shaped my views. My parents were both very conservative, though I have to say, after my father's death, my sister and I managed to bring our mother around to much more liberal sensibilities.

ohheckyeah
(9,314 posts)well done!
Xipe Totec
(43,890 posts)It's a strange phenomenon. Snow melts, the melt water falls on young tree branches and forms icicles. The weight of the icicles bends the branches and the icicles end up pointing at a diagonal or even horizontal or upward. The continuing snow melt forms a ball which in this case took the form of a head with the icicles forming the lion's mane.

(22,380 posts)the photo contest ran in the lounge.
Sometimes it happens that old verbiage gets copied and used in the setup of a contest (I've done it and announced it would be in the Lounge
Bet that's what happened.
Look forward to the voting!
