I agree, it's pretty damned stupid to post step by step instructions online for breaking the law.

And while I pretty much despise the high price charged by the photographers which come into schools to do class photos etc. (the last ones I paid for were awful, my daughters skin looked like plastic) I'd still never stoop to stealing copyrighted photos. My solution is to take my handy little DSLR, flash, and umbrella to a unique location and do my own photos. I guess for some people it's just easier to steal though.

Some schools only loan out the caps and gowns, and collect them immediately after the ceremony. Also, those "diplomas" are fake, and are likewise to be turned in immediately thereafter, with real diplomas mailed out later. So, any portraits other than the commercial ones can only be of the graduate in their own street clothes, sans diploma, in a location away from school -- in other words, shots that have nothing to distinguish them from ordinary family photos taken on any other day. A nice arrangement, if the photographic salon can get it.
