(7,347 posts)Nice moon detail!
But be careful where you go with it - avoid moon dust!
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,620 posts)I'm hoping against hope that the moon and her dust are far enough away to not cause any trouble!
Glad you like the picture.
I had the lens all the way out at 300 mm......I have never gotten such detail before.
Thanks for your kind words!

(46,436 posts)The moon shot is great. It's so much easier to get good shots of the moon when it isn't completely dark - at least, that's been my experience. The range of your lens really pulls it up.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,620 posts)I'm really jazzed about it too.
300 mm is longer than any lens I've ever had, and it really does pull it up. Having the sun still up helps too.........I have NV Whino to thank for that tip. She mentioned it in her thread with her moon pic.

(130,908 posts)good moon shots with detail more likely around sunset than during dark. Got one yesterday.

(130,908 posts)that's a GOOD MOON!
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,620 posts)It sure is!
I went outside to see how the clouds looked.........and just happened to spot the moon! It pays to look around...

(149,620 posts)You know I'm already having fun with it! When I turned around from looking at the sunset and the clouds, and spotted the moon sailing overhead.........well!
I'm glad you like my moon pic. I've never gotten one this good, ever!

(266 posts)Didn't know they made lenses with such a wide range, and the photos are sharp and clear! How big a piece of glass is it?

(81,267 posts)Glad you're here! Aren't these wonderful? Dang! California Peggy - you made art there! So glad you posted them here! We get cool stuff here ALL THE TIME, yourmovemonkey, and you're in for a long-running treat! That is, unless you've been lurking here for awhile, in which case you already know!

(266 posts)I may be the longest running non-registered lurker in DU history, since I started visiting the site shortly after its inception. Every time I felt the urge to sign up, someone else would post a response that pretty much summed up my thoughts on a subject. Mostly, the talented people in the photography group finally lured me out of my shell. There are some truly kind and gifted people here. Of course, I still read many of the politically oriented posts, but I'm still kinda shy.
Thank you for the second welcome. I'm honored, and it makes me feel special.

And what a beautiful post to do so on.

Tamron makes good lenses.
On edit: I just measured it, and it is four inches at 16 mm. When all the way open at 300 mm, it's just over 6 inches long.

(266 posts)It's pretty impressive for an all-in-one walk around lens. F3.5 wide open, and with IS too!
How is the AF response? Pretty quick?
I've only bought one outside vendor lens for my Canon. It was a Sigma 50mm/F1.4 Haven't tried any Tamron lenses yet, but I love my Sigma.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,620 posts)I know the IS works, because the camera shook just a little when I was focusing on the moon. My left shoulder is unstable and so there's not much I can do about it......but the pictures were sharp and clear anyway!
Tamron is made for Nikon so I always buy those.

(266 posts)and I'm so glad you're happy with it. I know the excitement of having a new lens, and trying it out. Have lots of fun... and please keep sharing with us!

My husband and I will be going next summer up north to "Hearst Castle" where I plan on wearing the camera out! It has a wonderful feature that allows me to take pictures without the flash. I used it in Italy a couple of summers ago, and it made so many pictures possible.
I look forward to your contributions as well, yourmovemonkey!
