We came upon this spruce hen and her two chicks today on our walk. They're so unafraid (or stupid) that you can almost walk up and pet them.

Sweet and innocent looking birds.

(4,940 posts)Are you coming up this summer? Wait till the fires are mostly out - it's too smoky to take pictures right now - but come up!

(46,436 posts)August 26, before I go up to Wiseman for an aurora shooting excursion with photographer Carl Johnson. There's nothing planned for that night, so maybe we could get together. I'll be at the Westmark, won't have a car, but maybe we could hang out in the lounge or something for a bit. I'd love to meet you. Here's a link to the excursion. I'm really excited about this. http://blog.carljohnsonphoto.com/?p=6648
My husband and I will be up for the start of the Yukon Quest next February, which I think I may have already mentioned to you. We'll be at the Springhill Suites part of the time and out at Chena Hot Springs for a couple of nights.
I hope for rain and a dampening of the hundreds of fires going on around our beautiful state. I know the landscape will regenerate over time, but it's kind of harsh when you're in the middle of it. I thought our air quality down here was bad until I saw pictures from Fairbanks. Are you wearing a mask?

(4,940 posts)I'll buy! If you're up for the Quest, look for me, because, health or not, I don't miss a start! And the Hot Springs are wonderful every time of year.

(75,480 posts)Our quail have been having chicks too. Mom and dad brings them to a shallow pan of water I put out for the critters. They jump in and swim around while mom and dad look on like proud parents watching their kids in the pool. I have tried to get photos, but when they see me, they are too fast and run away. But enough about the quail. Your pictures are lovely.
