Today we helped 22 families. Today we had more singles than usual and we also had three singles who use only a bicycle as their mode of transportation. They have been coming to the food bank for many years now and are like family. When we see them approach the building on their bikes we open the food box for them. One man does not like pinto beans so we remove those from the box. Depending on what we have we make a substitution. He has loading down to a science and how he manages to balance amazes me.
The church asked all of the volunteers if we have ordered our testing kits. I was one of the few who responded, "Not yet." The gal in charge of our food bank entered our names and addresses on the site. She told us, "I want my crew protected and taken care of should we get exposed." She did not mean that the people who come to the food bank would be the ones to bring COVID. We have had to shut down twice for two weeks because a member of the crew was exposed to COVID but did not know it until the following day.
