Gov. Doug Ducey will support extending education tax
The governor who has vowed to cut taxes every year he's in office now says he's open to extending a current sales tax that helps fund education and possibly to increasing it.
Gov. Doug Ducey said he didn't work hard to pass the Proposition 123 education funding proposal to "let us fall off a cliff" when the education sales tax Prop. 301 expires in 2021. The sales tax currently brings in about $600 million a year to education.
So of course were going to work to make sure that were going to put more money into K-12 education every year Im governor I said this in my State of the State, he told The Arizona Republic on Tuesday night.
Ducey said he will work with education leaders to develop a new Prop. 301 proposal to take to the voters.
