What Arizona's latest abortion bill really does

The emotional debate surrounding a bill that would specify what doctors must do if a baby is born alive during an abortion has created confusion, concern and misinformation.

Senate Bill 1367 is scheduled for a public hearing when the House Judiciary and Public Safety Committee meets at 2 p.m. Wednesday.

Here is key information about what the bill, sponsored by Sen. Steve Smith, R-Maricopa, and pushed by the conservative Center for Arizona Policy, would actually do:

Under current law, if a baby is "delivered alive" during an abortion, it is the duty of any doctors present to see that "all available means and medical skills are used to promote, preserve and maintain the life" of the baby.

If, IF something happens and the fetus is born, then yeah, do all you can.

Many a late term is due to the child and or parent could not survive the birth. I think if, IF, this happens it a Miracle. And I do believe the couple wants all that can be done to save it.

So why a law for a no brainer?
