Lawmakers want a second chance for dogs rescued from fighting rings

http://www.abc10.com/news/politics/lawmakers-want-a-second-chance-for-dogs-rescued-from-fighting-rings/39382205

In California, dogs rescued from illegal fighting rings are usually euthanized.

Officials will take the canines from the criminals who forced them into fighting. The dogs are brought into the rings either by being bred with that intent or by being stolen from their owners.

When they are taken in after fighting rings, California law defines them as "vicious dogs." Dogs with this distinction are killed because of the threat they pose on people and other animals.

California is one of twelve states still defining all fighting dogs as "vicious," but probably not for long.
