-- Nicole Santa Cruz in Orange County
An African American police officer and his family said they fled their upscale Orange County community after rocks were thrown through their windows, their tires were slashed and racial taunts were shouted by passing motorists. Last month, someone shot corrosive acid pellets into his garage, which damaged his car.
The family, who asked that they not be identified out of fear for their safety, said they packed up and moved to Corona and reported the alleged hate crimes to the Orange County Human Relations Commission.
Though African Americans account for a small fraction of the county's population no more than 2% they are the most frequently targeted group for hate crimes, said Rusty Kennedy, the executive director of the commission.

In Yorba Linda, a city of 65,000, African Americans make up a scant 1% of the population, according to census statistics. The city's mayor, Mark Schwing, did not return a request for comment. Neither did the city's Police Department.

I was walking down the street and 4 white kids called me over. I went over cool as a cucumber, they were pretty young, maybe 14 to 16 years old. I walked up to them and they jumped me. They pulled my jacket over my head and starting kicking me and punching me. They seemed pretty pissed off. They called me a "beaner" and a "fucking mexican". It lasted about 1/2 a minute and then they quit and just walked off laughing and calling me a pussy.
So Cal is my original home town. I grew up there and have many fond memories, but, it did have many racists including the cops and many young white males...old ones too...

(392 posts)There are many hold backs from other parts of the country who live in this area. They fear the other parts of the state because they FEAR.
I live in an area that is a throw back to the RED areas in the east.

(47,554 posts)Should go more like this: The fact that they are the most frequent targets of hate crimes may be the reason African Americans account for only 2% of the population in Orange County.
