Stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue To Be Closed For Marion Barry Memorial Events

But that's not all. They'll also be lighting the National Christmas Tree, on the Ellipse, about two blocks away, on the same day, at the same time.

Aaarrrrggghhhhh.

Stretch of Pennsylvania Avenue To Be Closed For Marion Barry Memorial Events

Tomorrow, the District will begin three days of events to both mourn and celebrate the life of "mayor-for-life" Marion Barry, and with it comes some pertinent travel info you should know about.

Though it was previously announced that Barry's body will lie in state for public viewing at the Wilson Building for 24 hours straight, the hours have been amended to Thursday, from 9 a.m. to midnight and on Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. Afterwards, Barry's body will travel in procession to his church, the Temple of Praise, in Washington Highlands.

In preparation of these events, Pennsylvania Avenue NW, between 12th Street and 14th Street, will be closed entirely from 4 a.m. on Thursday until 10:30 a.m. on Friday.

As previously announced, these events all lead up to a public memorial service for Barry on Saturday, December 6th, which will go from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The D.C. Council says that to expect long lines as "large crowds are expected at all funeral events, including the public viewing."

It is two blocks away. It was scheduled probably a year prior. Berry was not President. I don't see what the problem is. The majority of Christmas Tree attendees probably would not attend a Mayor's funeral. The city is certainly large enough to have two events.
