Senate President wants money for water

Senate President Joe Negron gaveled the Florida Senate to order for his first session as its leader Tuesday and outlined his agenda. Left unsaid was how he intends to handle what may be his biggest challenge — a policy dispute between Gov. Rick Scott and House Speaker Richard Corcoran.

While presiding officers always face challenges at the beginning of a legislative session, the one confronting Negron is a doozy.

Scott and Corcoran’s dispute centers on money — and Negron wants to spend a lot of money. Scott has different spending priorities and Corcoran thinks the state has a spending problem. Negron’s agenda of addressing water problems and boosting higher education could be sidetracked.

And Scott and Corcoran kicked up their fight a notch with their opening day remarks.
