Pottawattamie County sees record early voting

County on track to have 70% voter turnout


COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa -

Pottawattamie County saw record early voter turnout this year, with 17,000 voters out of 60,000 registered voters having already cast their ballots.

Starting Monday, voters will need to show an ID in order to register to vote in Iowa. Election commissioner Marilyn Jo Drake said the office has been swamped.

“It took off with a bang for the very first day it was eligible and it hasn’t stopped since,” Drake said. “It is the most fantastic turnout I have ever seen.”

Pottawattamie County is on pace to have 70 percent voter turnout, officials said, with 30 percent of voters voting early.
