About Maine Community Health Options

Maine Community Health Options is Maine’s first nonprofit, consumer operated and oriented health insurance plan. We are the only member-directed health insurance plan partnering with people, healthcare providers, and small businesses.

We are innovative and do things differently to improve healthcare for all. We believe that healthcare can be both better and more affordable when doctors, patients, health insurers, and employers all work together. We foster these relationships because these partnerships will bring change.

We also believe that the community plays an important role in people’s health. We support local resources whenever possible to help all Maine people have better access to high-quality, integrated care.

Maine Community Health Options is a national Consumer Operated and Oriented Plan (CO-OP) created with the support of the U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. Maine Community Health Options is a private, nonprofit entity governed by a member-based Board of Directors, which gives members a strong voice in the management and development of the plan.

How about not being as thin-skinned and paranoid as TPs and Southern Apologists? That would make a nice start.

My nearest ancestors started out in Maine. I'd have retired in Maine if I could afford to live there in the manner to which I've grown accustomed.

But do I need to apologize for decrying/bemoaning the state of politics there right now? In a pig's eye, pal. The sooner Maine and the rest of the country get rid of anything remotely GOP, the better off we'll all be. If you think I'm singling you out, a precondition for condescension, then you haven't read my rants about what goes on elsewhere.

If it makes you feel superior and more secure to accuse me of condescension or anything else in the whole wide world, by all means proceed at top speed. I don't mind. It doesn't matter.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?

This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.

As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
